Walking out of the grocery store this Sunday, I thought to myself: “Man, I got some BAMF deals this week at the grocery.” $0.50 for cucumbers, $1.99/lb. for grapes, etc. Produce is at it’s peak and I’m lovin’ it.
Well, guess where I went today?
I took one look at the selection and prices and thought, “Man, I got jipped at the grocery this week.” Seriously you guys, check out this gorgeous produce…
First of all- $1.00 for 5 cucumbers…That comes out to $0.20/cucumber, which is $0.30 cheaper than my local chain grocery store.
Moving along… $2.00/9 oranges or $0.22/orange. Mmmm have you ever seen oranges that cheap? Nope…
Tomatoes are a staple in my diet. I normally purchase grape or cherry tomatoes because they are easy and don’t take much prep work. If I find a good deal on heirloom that I can’t pass up, I will take the extra time to slice and dice. $2.00 for 14 tomatoes- that’s like free ($0.15/tomato).
Last, but not least…GRAPES!
Although they didn’t have a scale, I am going to use my best judgement and say each bundle was around 3 pounds. Oh Em Gee. Yup, that’s $0.67/pound.
Lets do some math. Say I purchase 3 pounds of grapes at the grocery store, priced at $1.99/lb (which I did). That comes out to ~$6.00. The Farmer’s market priced 3 pounds at $2.00, a saving of $4.00 or $1.32/lb. Good thing I already finished my bag of grapes. I snagged the container with the most grapes, front and center
Do you get my vibe here? I could have saved so much more money if I would have cruised the Farmer’s Market for some staple, peak season produce before doing my weekly grocery store shopping.
What is the best deal you have ever seen at the farmer’s market?
