Oh hey Monday. Long time no see. I am excited to reunite with Linley today after being away for almost a whole week. I go through serious withdrawals when we do long stints away from one another! My work flow gets so thrown off and the battery on my phone gets drained way too fast. Hello Facetime. I totally need this smoothie today after about 3 helpings of mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving dinner. Don’t worry- I balanced out those carbs with plenty of turkey #protein. Freals- my body is craving fresh/raw fruits and veggies right now.
Last week, we had a big video shoot where we filmed 4 recipe videos. Can I just say that I LOVE VIDEO. I love how recipe videos tell a story and that they challenge me. Team Fit Foodie is working with a new video team – – Kylee and Christian Creative, a husband and wife duo here in the Twin Cities. I love bringing different brains into Fit Foodie Finds. I feel like my work just keeps getting better (and funner) because more brains are better than one.
You’d never know it, but so much planning goes into a single recipe…especially if there’s video involved! So the way a recipe post works is that – – 4 weeks out we test. We test each recipe about 2-3 times (or more) depending on what it is. If it’s a casserole, we’re testing that bad boy upwards of 5 times. Once we’ve nailed down what goes in it, we photograph! Cross your fingers there’s a clear sky because if it’s rainy and dark- we’ve got to postpone the shoot. After that- we create a storyboard for video based off the photos we took and send it off to K&C. A week later, they come over to my home and we film! As you can see it’s a major process and we try and work around 6 weeks out. That’s right- we’re filming for January right now! Check out our setup from the last shoot —
It was nice and rainy out that day- so we did play around with some external lighting…there’s a first for everything! External lighting is something that I am not very familiar with. Like I said, I’ve come to rely solely on natural sunlight.
If you’re looking to amp up the protein in this bad boy- feel free to add a scoop of your favorite kind of protein powder! I’ve been loving Designer Protein Vanilla Whey lately, but any kind will work. Just note that you may need to add a little bit more coconut milk depending on how thick you like it!
- ¾ cup coconut milk
- 1 cup tropical frozen fruit
- ½ tablespoon ground flax seed
- 1 cups packed green spinach
- 3-4 medium basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and mix until smooth. Top with banana slices, blueberries, chia seeds, and slivered almonds.
