Christmas time is all about tradition.
The eve of the 24th is always spent with my mom’s family at Grandma and Papa’s house in Chicago.
My grandmother prepares a very traditional Italian Dinner composed of 7-fish. I asked Grandma Marie…”Why 7 fish?” and she said…”It’s just a tradition. We’ve always done it.”
I guess that answer is as good as any! A tradition is a tradition.
Last night’s menu included: Fried calamari, Bacala (Fried Breaded Cod), Shrimp, Pasta Calamari, Sardines, Baked Salmon, and Baked Cat Fish. I had my fair share of fried calamari, shrimp, and baked salmon.
I do have to say, the highlight of my dinner was not the fish (The Salmon was a close second though). It was a fluffly home-made pumpkin roll made by my wonderful Aunt Lisa. Warm and delicious. I also had lots of veggies: broccoli, asparagus, and salad.
It was definitely one of those nights where once I started with the dessert, I just couldn’t stop with the desserts. Our spread of x-mas cookies was outrageous. I think I tried one of everything…oops.
