Love traditional chocolate mousse, but wish it catered more toward high protein diets? Well, you’ve hit the goldmine. This high protein chocolate mousse is made with a secret ingredient: cottage cheese, which gives it an unbelievably creamy texture and protein boost.
It’s got the BEST chocolate flavor to fulfill even the most powerful chocolate craving due to the combo of chocolate protein powder and cocoa powder. Basically, it’s the PERFECT way to satisfy your sweet tooth while also fueling up on protein.
High Protein Chocolate Mousse – What You Need
- Cottage cheese: this soft cheese is the key ingredient in this high-protein recipe, providing a fluffy texture and a whopping 36 grams of protein!
- Chocolate protein powder: we took the protein factor to the next level by adding chocolate protein powder, which not only adds extra protein but also gives it an even richer chocolate taste. We recommend using whey protein for this recipe as you’ll already be using dairy. Our favorite is Garden of Life Chocolate Whey.
- Cocoa powder: for that deep, dark chocolate flavor that is simply irresistible.
- Maple syrup: just a touch of this natural sweetener is all you need to balance out the bitterness of the cocoa powder.
- Food processor: you’ll need a blender or food processor to mix all the ingredients into a smooth, creamy mousse.
Variations and Substitutions
To switch up the flavors a bit, you can use vanilla protein powder instead of chocolate if desired. You can also substitute the maple syrup with honey or agave nectar for a different flavor profile.
If you’re a chocolate-peanut butter lover, you can also add a spoonful of peanut butter to the mix for a delicious twist on this chocolate protein mousse. Or, play around with tasty toppings like fresh fruit, chopped nuts, or a dollop of whipped cream for added texture and flavor.
Top Tips for High Protein Chocolate Mousse

Storage + Freezer Directions
Store any leftover protein powder mousse in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
You can freeze this high-protein chocolate mousse and turn it into a high-protein chocolate nice cream! Just freeze for a few hours and enjoy!
What to Serve with High Protein Chocolate Mousse
This mousse tastes delightful on its own, but if you’re feeling creative, you can use it as a delicious dip for fresh fruit like strawberries, bananas, or apples. And, we loved ours topped with homemade whipped cream.

Delish! We only have vanilla protein powder but still turned out great.
I used a bullet blender and it did turn out runnier but was still creamy and delicious! Next time I’ll add toppings and whipped cream 🙂
Amazing recioe! I have made this 3 times and love it more and more each time! More cottage cheese recipes please!!!
So decadent! I made this with 1st Phorm chocolate marshmallow protein powder and didn’t even need the cocoa powder- thanks for an amazing gluten free protein rich delicious dessert- ready in under 5 minutes a bonus!
It was so easy and quick and it tastes so good. I love cottage cheese and I love making recipes with it.
I used my Vitamix blender because I don’t have a food processor…would that make it more runny? The flavor is so good though, we enjoyed it.
Not bad! I was halfway through it before I remembered to snap a photo! Good flavor, the fresh whipped cream on top was a yummy addition. Only bummer is mine turned out much runnier than the photos on the blog.
Amazing flavor. I overprocessed the cottage cheese so it was a little runny, but I popped it in the freezer and had amazing ice cream!
This was really yummy! Would definitely make again.
SO good!! Great bedtime snack to sneak in more protein!
