Love traditional chocolate mousse, but wish it catered more toward high protein diets? Well, you’ve hit the goldmine. This high protein chocolate mousse is made with a secret ingredient: cottage cheese, which gives it an unbelievably creamy texture and protein boost.
It’s got the BEST chocolate flavor to fulfill even the most powerful chocolate craving due to the combo of chocolate protein powder and cocoa powder. Basically, it’s the PERFECT way to satisfy your sweet tooth while also fueling up on protein.
High Protein Chocolate Mousse – What You Need
- Cottage cheese: this soft cheese is the key ingredient in this high-protein recipe, providing a fluffy texture and a whopping 36 grams of protein!
- Chocolate protein powder: we took the protein factor to the next level by adding chocolate protein powder, which not only adds extra protein but also gives it an even richer chocolate taste. We recommend using whey protein for this recipe as you’ll already be using dairy. Our favorite is Garden of Life Chocolate Whey.
- Cocoa powder: for that deep, dark chocolate flavor that is simply irresistible.
- Maple syrup: just a touch of this natural sweetener is all you need to balance out the bitterness of the cocoa powder.
- Food processor: you’ll need a blender or food processor to mix all the ingredients into a smooth, creamy mousse.
Variations and Substitutions
To switch up the flavors a bit, you can use vanilla protein powder instead of chocolate if desired. You can also substitute the maple syrup with honey or agave nectar for a different flavor profile.
If you’re a chocolate-peanut butter lover, you can also add a spoonful of peanut butter to the mix for a delicious twist on this chocolate protein mousse. Or, play around with tasty toppings like fresh fruit, chopped nuts, or a dollop of whipped cream for added texture and flavor.

I love this it was very good, I did lower the carb count by using just 1/4 of maple syrup and 1/4 of swerve brown sugar substitute. Froze the remaining amount to see how it tastes frozen in the ninja cremi tomorrow.
The cottage cheese was slightly overpowering has anyone any other ideas for an alternative. I loved the fact that it has only 4 ingredients
It was a little too tangy for me but maybe with a bit more sweetness to balance it would be perfect ๐๐ป
A little gritty, but very tasty! I might try without the protein powder and with a little bit of Nutella or melted chocolate.
Definitely should have added raspberries on top! ๐ fun recipe to make.
This was very silky and yummy. Iโm putting some on the freezer to see how it is as an ice cream.
I love this recipe! I love how fluffy the mousse gets and it’s filling! Feels like a guilt free pudding
