Come February, Linley and I will be packing our bags and heading of to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for a 15 day work-cation! I’ll be relaxing, re-energizing and facing my fears after our last trip to San Miguel. Plus outfit details on my fav Madewell picks right now!
2 years ago, Linley, Davida, and I ventured to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We planned a 10-day trip that was a combination of a press trip with Avocados from Mexico and a work-cation. We wanted to take some time away from the great north and soak up some vitamin D, feel inspired, and do something different. We ate our faces off, went to hot springs, did life on our own time, and drank a lot of tequila and sangria. On that same trip, we encountered a few not so pleasant experiences as well.
All three of us got the flu of death. We’re talking about a major stomach flu that lasted 5+ days. AND.
I broke my foot.
How has it already been almost 2 years since I broke my foot in a different country? If you haven’t read that story, it’s a good and hilarious read. I highly suggest it.
Whelp, Linley and I (and Mark!) just booked our flights to go back for a 15-day workcation in February! It’s not really a fear of mine to go back to San Miguel, but over the last 2 years, I have faced my fears of trail running, which is how I broke my foot in the first place. Since the break, I have taken a major step back from fitness. I always like to say that “I’m prone to injury”, because lately, I have been! Speaking of being prone to injury, I’m currently sitting on the couch icing my left glute because yesterday I pulled it doing weighted lateral lunges. I think I had too much weight on my back or maybe it was just a fluke thing. I’ve also had other weird, unrelated foot issues over the past year that have put a halt to my normal h-core attitude in the gym. I’m more of a moderate, 4-5 day worker outer these days and you know what? I think that was my actual fear. It seems like there always has to be some kind of life event to make me slow down and realize there is so much more to life than a 6-pack. My broken foot and pulled glute help me realize this time and time again. Taking a break is good for the body and is actually needed to progress in my fitness journey.
Going back to San Miguel for the second time is going to be just what I need. I have set a goal to do yoga every other day, do Healthy Glow Guide workouts, not set a morning alarm, journal, and live life without a rigid schedule. Life is slower in San Miguel and I’m excited to get a taste of that again and hopefully bring that peace back with me to Minnesota. While this trip is going to be a partial vacation, we will be working as well. As much as I want to cut ties with the internet for 15 days, that’s just not going to happen. Girls’ gotta pay the bills, plus I want to keep you biddies up to date on our adventure!
And now- for my outfit details!
Unfortunately, the shoes are out of stock, but I pulled some other similar ones that I’m dying to get. Oh, and right now at Madewell, they are having a spend $200 (easy to do) and get 30% off! WOOT.

I’d love to know if any of you are traveling soon and where you’re going. I’d also love to know if you’ve ever done a workcation!
Holy moly, Already two years? Time is flying! I felt like you have just shared your story!
Have fun! I have feet issues for a few years now that never completely healed. It doesn’t help that I am now training karate again 🙂 Not mentioning my knee…. Have to take it slower.
I know the previous trip was not that great, but I bet this one will be wonderful. Please keep us updated!
Minus the broken foot thing, this was my experience in Jamaica. I ended up in a community emergency room and it was AWFUL. I’ll most likely never go back there and quite honestly, that’s 100% okay with me. It was a very traumatic travel experience.
OH NO!!!!!!! Ugh I totally feel for you. But honestly, our foreign emergency room experiences have made us better people 😀
So glad you’re facing your fears and doing this again! Hopefully there’s no repeat of the whole stomach bug thing 🙁 I wonder if there are any preventative measures one can take for that…
Most gorgeous human! So proud of you for facing your fears and listening to your body! I’ll be sure to eat a hardboiled egg in your honor xoxo
Can I come? 😉
Love the outfit! I’m traveling to Costa Rica at the end of January with mySO to get some much needed beach and sun time!! I definitely want to get to Mexico one day, your pictures and adventures from last time (despite the broken food and stomach flu) looked like so much fun!
Me and a group of friends are headed to Ambergris Caye, Belize over New Years for a week! No working for me while I’m there, but I’ll let you know if you should put it on your bucket list!! I’ve heard amazing things and I’m also looking forward to getting out of the tundra and on to the beach. xoxox.
