SXSW Part III: Foodie Paradise

Since I’ve been here at Austin, I have realized a few things…[First] If you don’t have an iphone or ipad, you are a loser. haha just kidding, but for real! Apple is EVERYWHERE here! I have a dinky little Samsumg phone with no access to the internet. Sometimes I feel so disconnected from the world when I see everyone on their beautiful Blackberries and iphones. I have always been a flip phone kind of girl, but times are changing! Time to start savin’.

[Second] My music knowledge is…lack there of? For instance: I was at a show last night with Wiz Khalifa and B.O.B. who “I had never heard of.” Turns out I knew like 6 songs.

[Third] The restaurant selection in Austin makes Minneapolis look like Chain Paradise. I mean, two frozen yogurt places on one block…heaven! There are hundreds and hundreds of individually owned restaurants here!

Last night we ate at a wine bar called Cru. Their menu was elegant and fit for a foodie ๐Ÿ™‚ To share we got Ahi Tartare which was a twist on sushi! It had ahi tuna, avo, cucumber, cilantro, vine ripened tomato, and olive tapenade. Not to mention its amazing presentation.

For my main course I ordered the Cru House Salad with [specially requested by yours truly] grilled salmon. I paired this with some bubbly water ๐Ÿ™‚

That was scarfed down in a matter of seconds! After dinner we walked over to Tart. An organic, self-serve frozen yogurt place. Heeeea.ven. I told myself to take it easy, considering my 11.1 oz. purchase last night. I ended up with only 8.1 oz…few!

[Fourth] Overnight Oats are the way to go while traveling! I was planning on making hot oats, but our hotel room only had a refrigerator [no micro]. No worries! OO are extremely easy and require minimal ingredients!

Overnight Oats
-1/2C oats (I used Bob’s 5 Grain)
-1/2 C almond milk
-1/2C water

Directions: In a bowl, mix your oats and liquid. Let your mixture sit in the refrigerator over night or for at least 2 hours. In the morning your oats will be tender and ready to devour! I topped mine with a sliced banana, Justin’s Maple Almond Butter, and a handful of trail mix! *If you don’t have milk, 1C of water (or any liquid) will work perfectly!

My plans for today are a quick workout in the fitness center and then back down to Austin for more conference stuff ๐Ÿ™‚ We have plans to go to a “make your own sushi restaurant” tonight for dinner!

Happy Friday
L

Do you have a smart phone? What kind? Do you love it? Or have you become too reliant upon it?

What is your go-to travel breakfast?
