Walk the Lake
This is my #1 favorite physical activity to incorporate into my busy schedule during the summer. Minneapolis is called the city of lakes because there’s actually a chain of 4 lakes that run right through the city! I live about 1/2 mile from Lake Calhoun and a mile from Lake Harriet…so I’d say lake walking is easy access for me. Calhoun and Harriet are both 3 miles long so it’s the most perfect 60 minute break I will have all day. Here’s a photo from last week’s run around Lake Calhoun.
Active Travel
Bike > Car
This is a new one for me! I finally caved and jumped on the bike scene here in Minnesota. Minneapolis was rated the most bike-able city in America a couple of years ago. That’s right, my city is built for biking and I can hardly wait take my bike out for the first ride of the summer! I live about 1/2 mile from The Greenway, our bike path system that will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go not on a road!
WALK EVERYWHERE
Bold statement? I think not! I really try and walk when I can. I live in a prime spot where I’m blocks from multiple grocery stores, a Target, coffee shops, and my gym! If not’s not raining, I say get more steps in. Plus- the fresh air is good for you!
State Parks
Lin and I both gave in last year and bought state park passes for our cars. I think it took about 5 single day passes for us to bite the bullet and realize WE LOVE STATE PARKS and that we need state park passes for our cars. We spend a lot of time at Linley’s Family’s river house on the St. Croix, which is actually in Wisconsin…thus one of us got a MN state park pass and the other got a WI state park pass. SCORE. Anyways- we love trail running and walking and just a fun fact for you- Lin stepped on a snake last year.

PS: this is why I could never be a model.
This post is how I feel about the spring and the fall, but not the summer haha. I can’t fathom walking anywhere when it is 100 degrees outside. Which is a bummer because we have some fantastic parks. Hopefully, we’ll get a cool spell here soon.
Wahhh! Where are you based? MN summer are THE BEST. 80 and perfect every day ๐
I love to travel but not able to travel much in my current life pattern. Miss travelling a lot but anyways this is a nice article.
