Walk the Lake
This is my #1 favorite physical activity to incorporate into my busy schedule during the summer. Minneapolis is called the city of lakes because there’s actually a chain of 4 lakes that run right through the city! I live about 1/2 mile from Lake Calhoun and a mile from Lake Harriet…so I’d say lake walking is easy access for me. Calhoun and Harriet are both 3 miles long so it’s the most perfect 60 minute break I will have all day. Here’s a photo from last week’s run around Lake Calhoun.
Active Travel
Bike > Car
This is a new one for me! I finally caved and jumped on the bike scene here in Minnesota. Minneapolis was rated the most bike-able city in America a couple of years ago. That’s right, my city is built for biking and I can hardly wait take my bike out for the first ride of the summer! I live about 1/2 mile from The Greenway, our bike path system that will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go not on a road!
WALK EVERYWHERE
Bold statement? I think not! I really try and walk when I can. I live in a prime spot where I’m blocks from multiple grocery stores, a Target, coffee shops, and my gym! If not’s not raining, I say get more steps in. Plus- the fresh air is good for you!
State Parks
Lin and I both gave in last year and bought state park passes for our cars. I think it took about 5 single day passes for us to bite the bullet and realize WE LOVE STATE PARKS and that we need state park passes for our cars. We spend a lot of time at Linley’s Family’s river house on the St. Croix, which is actually in Wisconsin…thus one of us got a MN state park pass and the other got a WI state park pass. SCORE. Anyways- we love trail running and walking and just a fun fact for you- Lin stepped on a snake last year.

PS: this is why I could never be a model.
My family and I are in Wisconsin, thank you for the tip on the passes! Such a great and inspiring article! ๐
That’s so awesome! What part of Wisconsin?! I grew up in Milwaukee ๐
Really great post (and pictures)!
Walking and parking farther so you can get in more steps is a MUST! I also love playing outside with my dog and walking her in the morning if I need to!
If I had a dog I feel like I’d be out and about 100000 times more!
hahah LEE!!!! that last photo is bomb. you are definitely model material in my opinion
I love that last pic!! So cute! That’s so exciting that you’re going to Scandinavia. I just got back from there a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. I couldn’t help but notice how different their culture is from ours re: fitness, food, take out, drive-thrus, etc. You’ll have to tell me if you notice the same things!
OMG!! Where did you all go? Fill me in!!!!
I haven’t tried Lorissa’s kitchen but will definitely give it a try. Grass-fed beef and antibiotic-free chicken are a must for me.
You. Will. Love. It’s the ultimate jerky!
YAY for being outdoors all the time this Summer and for jerky! It is such a great snack to pack on hikes and other outdoor adventures! ๐ And yes that last picture is awesome!
Seriously!!! And thank you ๐
I’ve never tried that type of jerky but I may have to check it out! I love getting to the state parks. So happy it’s warm out and can really get outside to do things!
I NEVER WANT SUMMER TO END!
hahaha <3 that last pic. YES. I feel you.
I don't think I've tried Lorissa's kitchen but I am thinking I need to get some for our trip to the U.P. next week! We're checking out Pictured Rocks ๐ State Parks are the BEST. I'm sure you've got some great ones in Minnesota.
OMG! Where in the UP do you go? I grew up going every single winter to ski at Powderhorn! We also spent a lot of time in Escanaba during the summer. I like to consider the UP part of Wisconsin ๐
Lol UP is totally considered part of Wisconsin. Especially the accent, eh? :-p But my in-laws go over to Drummond Island on the east side. I honestly haven’t been further west of the Mackinac Bridge though I don’t think!
LOLz. I feel like the UP totally has it’s own accent. It’s pretty much it’s own country.
You’re the cutest in that last pic. Man, Iceland seems like the place to go! You guys are gonna have so much fun! Great tips Lee! ๐
I feel like everyone and their mom is going to Iceland this summer!
