They’re the perfect fusion of chocolate + peanut butter and it’s all packed into a crunchy, wholesome brown rice crispy treat. With no refined sugars, these healthier rice crispy treats are an easy recipe everyone will love.
What’s You Need for Our Chocolate Peanut Butter Brown Rice Crispy Treats
- Chocolate Brown Rice Crispies: I tested this recipe a few times and our favorite product to use for this recipe is Cascadian Farms Cocoa Crispy Rice.
- Brown Rice Syrup: This golden syrup is a natural sweetener that holds these cereal treats together instead of melted marshmallows. It’s not just sweet but a healthier choice compared to regular sugar. It makes sure our treats are yummy and more nutritious, giving them a chewy texture.
- All-Natural Peanut Butter: If you love peanut butter, you’re in for a treat! Our all-natural peanut butter steals the show, giving a creamy, nutty goodness that perfectly matches the chocolate. Choosing all-natural means a healthier option without any extra stuff, just pure peanut butter goodness.
Add-In Ideas
- Chocolate Chips: Feeling a bit sassy? Toss in some chocolate chips for an extra burst of chocolatey goodness.
- Vanilla: Want to keep things classic with a twist? Add a dash of vanilla extract for a subtle yet delightful flavor that elevates the entire treat.
- Nuts: Go nuts! Literally. Throw in your favorite nuts like almonds or cashews for an added crunch that takes the texture to a whole new level.
- Marshmallow Madness: Feeling playful? Mini marshmallows are your new best friends. They bring a gooey, delightful surprise in every bite.
- Protein: If you are looking to get more protein out of these babies- try adding 1/4 cup of your favorite chocolate protein powder.
Ingredient Swaps
- Nut Butter Bonanza: We used peanut butter in this recipe, but you can use almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter, too.
- Brown Rice Cereal: Cocoa Krispies will also work for this recipe.
- Brown Rice Syrup: If you can’t get your hands on brown rice syrup, we’ve also tried maple syrup before and it works perfectly!
Tips for Making Brown Rice Crispy Treats
- If you can’t find chocolate rice crispies, add 1-2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to the peanut butter mixture. You may need to add a bit more rice syrup.
- If you don’t have rice syrup, we have also made this recipe with honey. You will need to melt the honey and peanut butter together until it lightly simmers before mixing in the rice crispies.
Storage + Freezer Directions
Store these sweet treats in an airtight container. I will say that for best results- you should store this dessert in the freezer so that it stays held together better! Honestly, they are super tasty partially frozen. You can freeze them for up to 3 months.

I just wanted to let you know there is a typo, you said to put it in the OVEN for 30-60 min to firm up, I’m sure you meant to say in the FRIDGE, no big deal, just wanted to point it out.
Thanks for catching that!
This sounds delish! What is the saturated fat amount? Trying to figure out Weight Watchers points. ๐ Thanks!
These look like MY sweet dreams, hahahaha ๐ I’m more of a chocolate-anything whore, so I’d probably attempt to steal these!
Awesome recipe. A healthy version of the ones I loved as a kid. Thank you.
I really liked the recipe. Can brown rice syrup substituted with honey/agave?
Hi Sweta! Brown rice syrup is much more thick and sticky in comparison to honey and agave! I wouldn’t suggest subbing!
What a treat.
It looks amazing and I added it to my list of recipes I would like to try:-)
Thanks for sharing!
