The Perfect Cold Weather Drink
Not only is this mulled wine recipe a delicious warm beverage to share with friends and family over the holidays, but it makes your house smell like a Fall heaven. I mean, how gorgeous is this raspberry mulled wine recipe?
We love mulled wine for so many reasons, but mostly because it’s spicy and wonderful from all of the fresh herbs, berries and spices. Before we chat all things mulled wine, let’s chat raspberries for a second.
What Is Mulled Wine?
Mulled wine is a spiced wine drink that typically includes wine, spices and either raisins or berries. It’s served warm, and because of this, is oh so popular in the winter months.
So, this Mulled Wine
Mulled wine is for sure a show-stopping recipe, and the best part is, it’s actually really easy to make!
All you need to do is pick your favorite bottle of red (we used Pinot Noir), choose your favorite whole spices (cinnamon sticks, cloves, etc.), grab a carton of raspberries, and add a sweetener of choice such as maple syrup.
Mulled Wine — What You Need!
Once you’ve got all your ingredients on hand, you toss them all in a pot and then the magic happens. Simmer, simmer, simmer. Simmering infuses the red wine with all of those delicious fall flavors.
Simmering also helps break down the raspberries, which gives this recipe that amazing berry flavor. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 bottle of red wine
- Raspberries
- Fresh orange peel
- Star anise
- Whole allspice
- Whole cloves
- Cinnamon sticks
- Rosemary
- Maple syrup
Feel free to give this recipe your own twist and add whatever whole spices you prefer. You can even sub out the maple for another sweetener such as a simple syrup or honey. Don’t forget to serve this recipe warm!
How to Make Mulled Wine
This mulled wine recipe could not be easier! It comes together in the following 4 steps (ahem, one of which is garnishing):
- Place all ingredients into a medium pot and bring to a boil.
- As soon as it’s boiling, turn down to low and let the mulled wine simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Use a sieve to remove any seeds/spices before serving.
- Garnish with cinnamon sticks, a star anise, fresh thyme, and an orange peel. ENJOY!
Can You Make Mulled Wine in the Slow Cooker?
You sure can! This mulled wine can easily be made in the slow cooker instead of on the stove top. Simply place all ingredients in your slow cooker, and heat on low until the mulled wine is warm (it will take about an hour).
Once the mulled wine is heated, turn your slow cooker to warm, and enjoy!
Can You Make a Large Batch of Mulled Wine?
Absolutely! Feel free to double or triple this recipe if you have a large enough pot or slow cooker to accommodate.
