My Second Favorite Holiday

Hello my lovely friends! Did you all have an amazing 4th of July weekend? The 4th is my second favorite holiday (behind Thanksgiving) and this one did NOT disappoint! My parents moved from Cleveland back home to Chicago (where they grew up) and my siblings and I were all there to help with the move. They moved to an adorable suburb on the SW side called Burr Ridge. I’m so excited to explore with them later in the summer/year! Anyways, my 4th was great minus the fact that Man Candy wasn’t with me. He was fishing in Canada with his dad and grandpa! My family spent the day at my aunt and uncle’s pool eating BBQ and playing lawn games (I AM A DONKEY BALLS CHAMPION). The weather was a weird overcast, but I was just happy to be outside! Whenever I am at my parent’s house it makes me want a dog SO BAD. Their yellow lab, Sasha, is literally me in dog form. She just wants to be loved at all times and is so needy and quirky. LOVE HER SO MUCH. I had a great/light week of workouts. We took the pups on many walks along with a couple legit Summer Sweat Series workouts at a nearby park.

Post-Workout Smoothie Inspiration

My mom brought me to her new gym, Lifetime (which is based here in MN!), which was fun too! I actually ended up getting a smoothie post-workout and it was my inspiration for this recipe. There’s nothing like banana + chocolate + protein after a workout. Thirst-quenching and delicious. Speaking of protein. Check out our protein powder review HERE. We chat all about the best protein powder specifically for smoothies! layered chocolate banana smoothie with almond breeze carton in the background

I Love Smoothies

And I don’t make them nearly enough. They’re so easy to make and you can hide so much good stuff in there and not even know it! They’re also the perfect summertime snack because they’re chilled and healthy. This chocolate banana protein smoothie, in particular, is one of my favorites. Why?
  1. I love layered smoothies,
  2.  BANANA + CHOCOLATE = LOVE, and
  3. It’s SO THICK.
Nothing worse than a thin smoothie, amiright? I actually almost NEVER add ice to my smoothies because I feel like that thins it out and makes it watery. Frozen fruit is the way to go! I just know you’re going to love this chocolate banana smoothie ๐Ÿ˜€ smoothie with straw and bananas Don’t forget to top your smoothie with all the good stuff ๐Ÿ™‚ My choice? Banana + shaved dark chocolate!

This looks delicious. However, I don’t know if I would have the patience in the morning to wait and layer my smoothie instead of just blending everything together. Maybe for Boyfriend’s b-day I’ll make him as part of a celebratory breakfast/brunch. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I completed the survey. I wouldn’t buy Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almondmilk because I live outside the US and it’s not sold here.

It’s too pretty to drink! Sounds so yummy. Almond breeze is definitely the best almond milk! So creamy and flavorful:-)

I did the survey– is that it? I felt kind of bad because I make my own almond milk! (this looks great, by the way, but honestly I would just chunk everything into the blender together– it all goes down the same!)

Oh, this recipe looks so yummy! What protein powder do you use/recommend? I believe I’ve seen your vanilla whey powder, but I don’t remember what it is. ๐Ÿ˜› Do you use the same brand for both vanilla and chocolate? I’ve tried some protein powders, but they didn’t taste very good. ๐Ÿ™

Oh, I just saw your comment with the protein powder you used. Is that the one you typically recommend?

This looks SO good! I’m always so impressed that you get the smoothies to layer perfectly. Mine just end up mixing together lol. PS. I’m a HUGE volleyball fan and played my entire life. Kerri Walsh is super nice in person, and so was Misty May.

Ahhh, got it! I’ll try that. I have an irrational fear about burning out my VitaMix if the mixture is too thick lol : )

Lifetime is my favorite gym. I was a member when I lived in the chicago suburbs. Smoothies are the best! With this heat wave, smoothies have been happening for dinner a couple times a week.
