These birthday cake oats are the perfect make-ahead breakfast option, so you can eat like it’s your birthday every day! Just combine your ingredients, let them soak for at least 2 hours or overnight, and dig in! With tons of birthday cake flavor and healthy ingredients, these easy overnight oats are perfect for your special day and every day in between.
What’s In This Birthday Cake Overnight Oats Recipe?
- Rolled Oats: as I’ve mentioned in many overnight oat recipes, old-fashioned oats are the way to go! They are going to give you that chewy, delicious text you love and soak up just enough liquid without getting mushy.
- Chia seeds: packed with nutrients and create a gel-like consistency.
- Greek yogurt: plain Greek yogurt adds a boost of protein and gives the oats a creamy consistency.
- Almond milk: dairy-free and provides a creamy texture for your overnight oats.
- Vanilla extract: adds a hint of vanilla to the oats.
- Honey: the perfect natural sweetener that won’t interfere with the birthday cake batter flavor.
- SPRINKLES: use any type of sprinkles you like. We used rainbow sprinkles, but chocolate sprinkles would be a fun chocolatey twist!
Variations and Substitutions
Want to make these oats high protein? We recommend adding some vanilla protein powder or your favorite protein powder. Some of our favorites are Teras Whey, Garden of Life Organic Whey Protein Powder, and Garden of Life Raw Organic Vanilla Protein Powder. For more protein powder recommendations, check out our Guide to the Best Protein Powder.
Switch up the milk: You can switch things up by trying various milk alternatives like coconut milk or soy milk for a personalized twist.
Thickness: If you like your oats a little mushier, quick oats are a great substitute for rolled oats.
Tips for Making the Best Birthday Cake Oats
- We added the sprinkles right at the end so that the colors didn’t bleed.
- If you let the sprinkles sit in the fridge overnight, they will bleed, and your oatmeal will turn a brown/green color. Ain’t nobody want that to happen.
- Feel free to sweeten with real maple syrup or agave instead.
- We love making this recipe for special birthdays – I mean, nothing is better than sprinkles for your birthday breakfast.
- If you want to double or triple the batch for some meal prep or to share, go for it! You can store the extras in small mason jars or airtight containers.
- Like your oats a little creamier, add a splash of milk right before serving.
Storage
These oats will last around 4 days in the fridge in an airtight container or glass jar.

This looks so good! What a great combination of flavors!
These were spectacular! I used great value light greek yogurt as the sweetened base and added maple syrup instead of honey. Split into two ramekins, covered with cling wrap, and put in the fridge overnight. My mother & I enjoyed ours cold & topped with sprinkles & slivered almonds. Utterly delicious (tasted just like cake batter!) ๐
I’m so glad you and your mom loved these overnight oats! <3
Can you use maple syrup instead of honey?
Yes you can!
This recipe looks good! Can I asked why you used Greek yogurt? Does it affect the taste or texture? Regular yogurt is what I normally have in my fridge
Hi Briella! We use Greek yogurt because we love the creamy texture and the tart taste that it gives recipes. Feel free to use whatever yogurt you have at home!
