This Strawberry Pico de Gallo is THE perfect appetizer if you’re looking to dip into some summertime bliss.
It’s effortless to make, yet is packed with nourishing fruits AND veggies like fresh strawberries, tomatoes, sweet corn, red onion, cilantro, and spicy jalapeño peppers. Serve it with tortilla chips, on top of grilled fish, and everything in between.
Man, oh man, there’s something about the addition of sweet strawberries that takes traditional pico de gallo to the next level. Ever since I tried it out, I’ve been obsessed with this unique twist on the classic homemade salsa!
All you have to do is drain and strain your tomatoes before mixing them together with all the other fresh ingredients.
Strawberry Pico de Gallo Ingredients
- Tomatoes: The tomatoes are sprinkled with salt to extract their juices, which are then drained and strained. This extra step ensures that your strawberry salsa recipe doesn’t become too watery.
- Strawberries: The fresher, the better! If possible, opt for organic strawberries to get the best flavor and nutrients.
- Sweet corn: Sweet corn adds a subtle sweetness and crunch to the pico de gallo. Make sure to remove any excess water from canned corn before adding it in.
- Red onion: Provides just the right amount of bite and depth of flavor.
- Cilantro: Fresh cilantro is one of the best fresh herbs for adding a bright and refreshing flavor to any dish.
- Jalapeno: Jalapeno creates the perfect amount of heat and spice in this pico de gallo. For a milder version, remove the seeds and membrane before adding
- Lime juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice brings tanginess and balances out the sweetness of the juicy strawberries.
Our Favorite Ingredient Swaps
Salsa is the perfect condiment for experimentation. Switch up the flavor profile of your strawberry pico de gallo by swapping the strawberries with sweet mango. You could also use white onion or yellow onions in place of red onion if you prefer.
If you aren’t big on heat, green pepper makes a great replacement for jalapenos. And to add even more texture, flavor, and nutrition, you could add black beans or diced avocados!
A Few Quick Tips for Strawberry Pico de Gallo
- Make sure you take the time to drain your tomatoes! Drawing the moisture out of the tomatoes ensures that you don’t end up with a watery salsa.
- If you are looking for a spicier salsa, keep the seeds of the jalapeños. You can also add a dash of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
- We don’t recommend substituting any other berries. Strawberries are the perfect balance of sweet and tangy for this pico de gallo recipe. We do not recommend using frozen berries. The texture and flavor will not be the same as fresh strawberries.
Storage Instructions
This pico de gallo is best served fresh. However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
The longer it sits, the more liquid it will release due to the strawberries and tomatoes. Simply drain any excess liquid before serving again.
