How to Make Steel Cut Oats in the Crockpot
If you’re wondering how to make crockpot steel cut oats, it’s EASY! Like, really easy.Step 1: Spray Crockpot
Give your crockpot a nice spray down (or rub down) with nonstick cooking spray! This will prevent any major stickage. You can also use coconut oil or pretty much any kind of oil for this step if you don’t have cooking spray.Step 2: Add In Ingredients
You read that correctly. Step 2 is simple…add ALL ingredients into your slow cooker and mix. In addition to steel cut oats and almond milk, this recipe calls for vanilla bean paste, cinnamon, and maple syrup. It’s what gives this crockpot steel cut oatmeal its delicious flavor.Step 3: Cook
Turn your slow cooker to high and cook for 4 hours OR low and cook for 8 hours. If possible, I highly recommend giving your steel cut oatmeal a stir every once in a while to prevent sticking. If you’re cooking overnight, don’t fret! You should be fine.More Steel Cut Oatmeal Recipes

my oats say quick cooking steel cut oats is that the same- is the cooking time different?
For this recipe I used actual steel cut oatmeal, not the quick cooking kind. Your cook time might just be slightly different!
what do you suggest?
I have quick cooking steel cut oats too. Did you try it? How did it turn out?
Hiyah! I haven’t tried quick cooking for this. I do know that the liquid in the recipe would be different because I believe you do not need as much compared to normal steel cut!
yep.. need to make!
So excited to try this! But one question for u… Have u tried other options for the almond milk? Both my kids are allergic to peanuts / tree nuts. We can do soy or coconut milk, or regular milk too. Would any of those work? Thanks!!!
Any kind of milk will work!
What about water? Can water be used to substitute the milk?
Absolutely!
Hi Lee! This sounds amazing! I also love oatmeal and have promised to make & bring it to my bible study group in a couple weeks…I need at least 18-20 servings! What would you recommend, tripling your recipe or making separate batches?
Hi Luci! I think you could definitely triple this. Will it fit in your crock-pot, that is the real question?
Hey Lee, thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I really appreciate it! ?? Well I have a 4-5 QT crockpot…5qt being right to the top…so do you think it would hold a triple, or maybe double & a half recipe? If so, how long should I cook it? ?
I know that it would hold a double for sure! Start with that and if it looks like it will hold more, add a 3rd batch! I say cook it on high for at least 4 hours. Stir every hour!
Sorry if this is a silly question: If i make a batch of this on Sunday, does it reheat well for breakfasts throughout the week?
Hey Lisa! Absolutely! I actually think it tastes better heated up đŸ™‚
Holy moly I need this! I made cinnamon roll oatmeal this morning, which is similar, but the added maple syrup is a must!
Sounds so fab! Any kind of oatmeal is my kind of oatmeal đŸ˜›
I’m surprised I’ve never tried cooking oatmeal in the slow cooker! I’ll have to try this soon, and steel cut oats are the BEST!
I’ve never made oatmeal in a crock pot before – what a genius idea! This looks absolutely delish.
PS – I commend your openness to talk about poop on the blog. This is how I know we’ll get along great when we finally meet in person one day đŸ™‚
HAHAHAHA. POOOOOOOP. Gonna start hashtagging every post with #EverybodyPoops

Bacon bites in oatmeal? Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Yup. Let’s be friends đŸ˜›
These topics are so cosfinung but this helped me get the job done.
In response to the negative criticism and defamatory comments I have begun to receive on my channel, I wish to make the following statement: I am honored to be among the nominees because we are each doing something special in completely different areas. In our own ways we touch people's lives. I think it's not about voting against another. It's about voting for what your heart tells you to support right now in your life. Win or lose, each of the nominees has achieved something important, and no contest can take that away from any of us. – Jennifer Lebedev
Seriously!? CUTEST idea!Maile is just getting to an age where she's constantly getting scrapes and other "boo boo"s … This will be perfect.
I often eat banana cinnamon oats for breakfast, basically everyday, cause they are awesome and I need nothing more in my life, except the occasional pancake đŸ˜‰
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I completely agree on the occasional pancake. I eat oats like 6 days a week and then make pancakes on Sunday. Luckily I ate pancakes THIS morning because I had leftovers đŸ™‚
We both know a good thing!
Oh man I need to try crockpot oats! I finally just got on the steel-cut bandwagon and I LOVE them in my overnight oats. (finally) Can’t wait to try this. Especially with it getting colder out!! EEEEE
DO IT!!!!!!!!! My crock-pot is my boyfriend. Peanut butter too.
I will openly admit that I am 100% obsessed with oatmeal, i eat it every single day! Most of the time I’ll make overnight oats, but I like to switch it up and try new recipes. đŸ™‚ I just recently made maple oats with banana and PB, it was so good!
YES!!!!!!!! I am the same way and I don’t care who knows đŸ˜› I literally eat some form of oatmeal every single day for breakfast. Banana and PB is a winning combination. ZING.
My 13 year old son and I love oatmeal as a nighttime snack. I also like to add unsweetened cocoa powder to mine (that oatmeal is already sweetened with brown sugar).
Yum yum yum!
If you don’t have vanilla bean, how much vanilla extract?
1-2 teaspoons!
Can I use regular oats instead of steel cut?
You can, but I think the cook time will differ. Regular oats cook a lot faster than steel cut!
My family and I love oatmeal, but I am not very creative with it. I usually just add cinnamon and brown sugar with either bananas or raisins. Clearly, I need to add bacon, among other things. Lol
HAHAHA. Bacon makes the world go round đŸ˜› Cinnamon and brown sugar are both fantastic, too!
Oatmeal is the best, I always have it in the cold months, and my favourite combo is also with banana (I always cook it with the oatmeal so it becomes all mushy) and PB, but with one extra – chocolate chips. I love the bacon version, I never tried oatmeal with bacon.
AHHHHH! Cooking the banana into the oatmeal is THE BEST. I used to do that all the time. I need to jump back on that bandwagon.
once you have made in slow cooker, how do you
reheat the oatmeal. i made the maple cinnamon??
need to have ready for my daughter who leaves the house at 445am
I would just pop it into the microwave or reheat on the stovetop!
I make a big batch, 2 cups steel cut oats or more in the crock pot then when it is cool, I has coolef, package it in 1 cup servings and freeze it. Then I in microwave with frozen fruit and banana and heat it up, SOOOO GOOOOD!!
