Looking for a fall treat made with REAL ingredients? This homemade brownie recipe is made with pureed pumpkin and sweetened with maple syrup. If you’re wondering how to make brownies healthy, these delicious grain-free pumpkin brownies are a great place to start!
These easy homemade brownies are legit the most amazing desserts I’ve ever made…and I’ve made a lot of deserts. Linley and I tested these babies 4 times before getting it JUST right.
I based the recipe off of Davida’s Avocado Brownies, but there are no avocados involved. When I was in Torontoย visiting Davida, I had the pleasure of eating her Avo Brownies first hand and huzzzzzah….they were delicious!
These brownies are made with a coconut flour base, making them grain-free. They’re made sans dairy, gluten, and refined-sugar making them paleo-friendly! “Hey mama.”
How to Make Brownies
Brownies are a gift from the dessert gods. I just love making brownies from scratch. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good and dirty brownie from the box every now and then, but the process of making homemade brownies is nostalgic for me.
Gonna throw it out there….yah need the eggs for these babies! I didn’t attempt a vegan variation because most of the liquid from this recipe comes from the eggs. The eggs also help bind everything together and make they “fudgy.”
Eggs = good for this specific homemade brownie recipe.
I sweetened the brownies with part maple syrup and part coconut sugar
. Maple syrup has been my bestie lately. It screams all things fall. Yerp.
I am looking forward to trying these brownies with a variety of different pureed veggies and fruits. If you don’t have pumpkin, feel free to use an alternative puree like the ones below
- sweet potato
- avocado
- broccoli
- beets
- applesauce
Just kidding about the broccoli. That would be disgusting ๐
Now, get baking and enjoy these tasty pumpkin brownies!

Exquisite!!!So simple but sooo delicious!!Thank you!!

Loved this recipe but changed it a bit! Lower calories if you use Agave syrup vs maple syrup (this went to 106 cal per brownie )
I also used hersheys dark cocoa vs regular
Ok these were outrageously good! I made them with half almond flour and half shredded coconut because I didn’t have coconut flour. I also subbed honey for the maple syrup and I didn’t have enough pumpkin so I added apple sauce to make it a cup. I usually make black bean brownies and these were a really fun change!! 10/10 would recommend.

Glad your subs workeD!!
I love brownies but I nevsr try them before so I will try this recipe.
Huge FitFoodie fan…but not a fan of these. Too pumpkinny (in a bad way), not sweet enough, and too dark / almost bitter. I would not make this recipe again.

Omg, yum! So adding these to a fall weekend to-do list! Love that they’re grain-free!
What can I substitute the coconut flour for? Almond, cashunuts, academia nuts…? Thanks!
Making these tonight for a party tomorrow (having read the comments re letting the brownies rest in the fridge). Have you tried adding almond butter at all? That seems to be a popular ingredient for grain-free brownies.
I follow you on the IG but never really looked at your blog??โโ๏ธIโm so glad I finally did! Iโm making these brownies and your gf lemon squares(they ingredients look paleo to me). I donโt have pumpkin but I do have a can from Trader Joeโs of butternut squash purรฉe, Iโm trying it out…wish me luck!
YAY!! Welcome to FFF ๐
Hi! I made these brownies as they looked super delicious and easy (and they were grain-free :D) But, They turned out too crumbly, not really dry but crumbly. We couldn’t eat it like in a square, at the end it was just a bowl of chocolatey crumbles, though they tasted amazing! My nieces loved the chocolate crumbles, but I wanted a piece of brownie ๐ I wanted some advice as how to improve them. I read in the comments that it’s a good idea to let them stay in the fridge and eat them the next day? I appreciate your experience on the matter, thank you!!
Absolutely delicious!!! And so easy to do… love them! Thanks for sharing
I used whole wheat flour, flax eggs and left out the chocolate chips, added more cacao instead. Turned out great!
Yum!
HOLY CRAP, these brownies are delicious! So good and moist. I will for sure be making these again.
These are the best brownies on earth. thank you for the fabulous recipe!!!

YAY! So glad your fam loves them and so happy the flour mix worked well for you <3
Hmmm, not sans refined sugar (or Paleo) since they have chocolate chips. They look great, though, so I’m going to try them without.

YES!!!! We have another brownie recipe coming up…but not going to lie, this pumpkin one is the one I make year round ๐
Hi Lee, tried these today had to substitute coconut flour for dedicated coconut and for coconut sugar I just added more maple syrup instead (don’t get these ingredients here in India) …. And yet they were amazing… Thank you so much for the recipe…
I am so happy that your modifications worked!!!
Just discovered your site this morning and I love your attitude, energy and great way of thinking FOOD! I have recently had to revamp my diet after a Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosis, so gluten free and high in nutrients is my friend! I’m thinking about substituting stevia for the sugar as I’m supposed to keep sugar to a minimum, but who can live without a chocolate fix, right?. Can’t wait to find what other treasures you have on this site–thanks!
YAY! So glad you found me ๐ I hope you love my recipes!
