Citrus is the Best

If I am ever looking to brighten up a recipe, citrus is usually the answer! From savory recipes to sweet recipes, citrus is the kind of ingredient that gives depth to any recipe. Citrus based recipes are also so refreshing! Who would turn down an ice cold lemonade on a hot summer day? Or how good does a summer pasta with fresh greens and lemon juice sound? I think you get what I’m throwing at you. These lemon drop martinis are the perfect summer cocktail that is refreshing, delicious, and not too sweet!

The Skinny on Lemon Drop Martinis

Lemon drop martinis really bring me back to college. Who else ordered lemon drop shots at the bar because they tasted like lemon candy? This girl did! Those lemon drop martinis are made from a sugary lemon juice mix that would for sure give you gut rot. I’m here to introduce you to these lemon drop martinis that are made with only three ingredients! But first, let’s chat about some of the most common questions about lemon drop martinis.

What is a lemon drop made of?

Lemon drop martinis are traditionally made with lemon juice, vodka, sugar, and triple sec. Sometimes, people add substitute vermouth, syrup, and other ingredients.

What does martini up mean?

Ordering a “martini up” means you would like your cocktail chilled. For this lemon drop martini, adding 5-6 ice cubes to a mason jar or a martini shaker, plus all of the ingredients, and shaking vigorously will chill the lemon drop. Another way to serve this lemon drop martini chilled would be to chill the glass in the freezer before hand. putting lemon juice on a martini glass rim

How to Make a Lemon Drop Martini

Making a martini can sometimes be a little intimidating. You watch bartenders or mixoloists carefully put together complex cocktails that taste amazing and thing I could never do that. Though mixology is an art and I love discovering new cocktails when I’m out, it’s very easy to make tasty drinks at home. To make this lemon drop martini, all you need are three ingredients:
  1. Lemon Juice
  2. Simple Syrup (we use our homemade honey simple syrup)
  3. Vodka
We decided we wanted this lemon drop martini to be naturally sweetened and perfectly tart. We used our homemade honey simple syrup as our sweetener and squeezed fresh lemon zest for the zing. After you have measured out all of the ingredients, we suggest that you serve these lemon drops cold. If you have a cocktail shaker, place 5-6 ice cubes, and ingredients into the shaker. If you don’t have a shaker, a mason jar with a top works just fine! Shake your lemond drops for about 30 seconds to chill and mix all of the ingredients. Before pouring the lemon drop into the glass, wet the rim of the drink glass you plan to use and dip in in sugar. Pour the lemon drop into the glass and enjoy!
