A Breakfast that Serves a Crowd

Whenever my family gets together for the holidays (or any time of year!) we love cooking together. I’m usually in charge of breakfast because I’m always the first one up.

You know what they say, the early bird catches the worm…or makes breakfast for the whole family! I’ve been making breakfast for my family since I was about 5 years old. I was the first one awake back then, too.

A meal to share is always my go-to for family breakfast affairs. If I can mix a whole bunch of things together, put it in a casserole dish, and into the oven, then I’m a happy camper. This baked oatmeal hits all of these things on the head!

What You Need

Simple ingredients, but a whole lot of flavor. Here’s what you need!

Why We Love this Baked Oatmeal

I love that this recipe is all naturally sweetened with the mashed banana, maple syrup, and berries.

We did add a few dark chocolate chips, but chocolate doesn’t count, right? I also love that this is a year-round kind of breakfast! Now that we know berries are always in season, why not make this for all occasions?

Can you use frozen berries?

Frozen berries are a great alternative to fresh and you can 100% use them instead of fresh.

Can you use other berries?

Don’t have raspberries or blackberries? Use your favorite kind of berry! 2 cups of any kind of berry works.

  • blueberries
  • strawberries
  • blackberries
  • raspberries

Can you make this gluten-free?

To make this recipe gluten free, simply use gluten-free all-purpose flour instead of white whole wheat. Also, make sure to buy certified gluten-free rolled oats.

Can you freeze baked oatmeal?

To freeze this dark chocolate berry baked oatmeal, let it cool completely. Then tightly wrap it with a piece of tin foil and remove as much air as possible.

Freeze for up to 3 months.

Do you eat baked oatmeal hot or cold?

Most people eat baked oatmeal warm, but you can totally eat it cold on days 2, 3, and 4. I’ve personally done it and it’s great!

Storage Suggestions

Let baked oatmeal cool completely. Then, transfer it into an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3-5 days.

This is yummy! Easy to make and turned out perfectly. The wee pockets of melted chocolate take it to a whole other level. I made it with frozen mixed berries and it didn’t need any extra cooking time

I am a dark chocoholic. But I can’t find any dark chocolate chips anywhere, much less mini dark chocolate chips. Pray tell where you get yours and what brand? ??

You could try pre-mixing the dry and wet ingredients in 2 separate bowls to save a little time – then combine in the morning and bake?
I made this with raspberries and blueberries and dark choc chunks – sooooo good! Do I really have to share?
I’m curious to try making this with a flax or chia egg instead too, maybe next time!

Milk chocolate-covered potato chips are WONDERFUL. And so is this oatmeal! Nothing better than dark chocolate and berries!
