We made these no-bake chocolate peanut butter balls for a friend who just had her first baby. It was a perfect recipe to make with a toddler running around because he could help roll all the balls out once they were mixed up. I’m pretty sure he ate the equivalent of about 5 balls while were making these, but that’s OK😜!

These little balls of heaven are packed with fiber, protein, healthy fats, and a good amount of carbs to fuel you for whatever you need them for! This particular recipe is special in that it does not require a food processor which is usually used to grind the oats and all of the other ingredients together. Furthermore, there are no dates involved.

We’ve gotten both of these requests for our no-bake protein balls quite a few times over the years, and we finally came up with a super simple recipe that does just that –> combines all of the same flavors of our classic no-bake peanut butter balls, but with no kitchen equipment and no dates.

Ingredients for No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls

  • old-fashioned rolled oats
  • cocoa powder
  • peanut butter
  • honey
  • salt

We tried to keep this recipe simple by using ingredients we most likely already have in the pantry.

Substitutions and Variations

  • You can use old-fashioned rolled oats or quick-cooking oats in this recipe. The old-fashioned oats will give a bit more texture and the quick-cooking oats will create more of a homogeneous ball.
  • We used cocoa powder to make these chocolatey. You can also substitute some of the cocoa powder for chocolate protein powder. We do not recommend using only protein powder, cocoa powder adds the best chocolatey flavor.
  • If you end up using both cocoa powder and chocolate protein powder, you may need to add a bit more honey to make sure they stick together.

Storage Suggestions

We suggest placing all the balls on a plate and transferring them to the freezer for 15-20 minutes for them to set and become less sticky. Remove them from the freezer and transfer them to an air-tight container or a freezer-safe bag. Store them for up to 3 months in the freezer.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • In a medium-size bowl, mix together all ingredients.*
  • Then wet hands. Use a tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop out dough and roll between your palms to form balls.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Tips & Notes

  • For this recipe, make sure you use drippy peanut butter. The moisture in the oils will help these balls form!
  • Option to place all ingredients in a food processor and process until a dough is formed. Some like to do this for easier digestion!
  • If your dough is a little too dry, add more honey.

Delicious! I did roll mine in coconut though so I would feel like I was having a rum ball and they did not disappoint. I made them 30 mins ago and am already considering making more haha

Hi! Can I substitute cacao powder for the cocoa powder? Will it significantly affect the taste?
Thanks!

I blended the oats into almost a flour-like consistency before I added them, so the dough seemed kind of small, but they tasted really good!

The perfect small sweet snack! I could easily make these every weekend. When make these with PB2 powered peanut butter so I can really get the consistency I want. And my guess is it lowers the calories on these assuming this recipe calls for a standard peanut butter which is around 190 calories per 2 tbsp. These are excellent!

So…if you kid loves the book The One and Only Ivan and patiently waits for the movie comes out. You make these No Bake Peanut Butter Ball and dub them “Me-Balls” and serve them with cut up bananas and yogurt covered raisins, snuggle up on the coach and fire up Disney + and watch the movie The One and Only Ivan. My kids, 13, 9, 7, and 18 months love them and they will now be an easy and fast go to. Thank you so much!

So quick and delicious! I had to double the batch because the first time I made this recipe they were gone in 2 days! I also added shredded coconut to the batch.

I just whipped these up and they’re incredible. I used one bowl and one spoon – super low mess, creates the perfect amount for one week, and ready instantly. I’m so glad I have enough ingredients to keep making these!
