I am currently staring at the background of my computer right now with butterflies in my tummy. In t-4 weeks mark and I will be in the wonderful land of SCANDINAVIA! The first part of the trip will be spent with our dear friend Lars who was an exchange student at our high school. We both got to know him really well because Mark played soccer with him and I hung out with Mark ๐Ÿ˜› Lars lives in downtown Bergen so thats where we will be the first 2 days of our trip followed by 6 days in and around Geiranger where Lars grew up. Our main goal for Norway? Spend as much time outside hiking, exploring, kayaking as possible. Just google Geiranger, Norway and you’ll know what I mean.

Following Norway, we’re heading to Copenhagen for 4 days and then a stopover in Iceland for 3 days. Copenhagen will be more of a city adventure and Iceland will be back outdoors. Since we basically have a personal tour guide in Norway, we’re having to do much more research in Copenhagen and Iceland…this is where you come in! We’d love recommendations for either of those places. Where to stay, eat, and do would be great! I’ve found that the best kind of travel is by word of mouth. We’re open to anything and would love to hear about your experience!

This workout…

You guys can thank Miss Nourish Move Love for this BA of a workout. I’ve got a few ladder-style workouts on FFF (check them out here and here) and this one will not disappoint! I love the mixture of strength and plyo. It’s the only way to go, if you ask me! I made sure to keep this workout bodyweight only so that you can take it on the road. If you are a BEAST and looking for more of a challenge…add in some weights.

Oh! And it’s going to be a perfect workout to take with me to Scandinavia. I told myself that I would try workout 8 out of the 16 days..even if it’s just a 20 minute AMRAP or 30 minute circuit.

Hi!! I’m a longtime reader and had to weigh in with travel recs for Copenhagen… I had probably the best meal of my life at a restaurant called Host. The restaurant is New Nordic, so you get a feel for that type of cuisine/mentality, without spending as much as you would at Noma. It’s definitely still an expensive meal, but in my opinion it was soooo worth it! 10 courses that were all phenomenal and unpretentious, and one of the most memorable meals of my life. Also just a beautiful atmosphere. Anyway ill get off my soapbox here, all of the food in Copenhagen is phenomenal so you can’t go wrong!!

We just got back from Iceland and it was beautiful!!

My favorite thing we did was hike to the Reykadalur Hot Spring. Pretty intense hike up the mountain but well worth it in the end – you get to bathe in a natural hot spring. It was SO cool!

Other cool things we did were the free CityWalk tour in Reykjavik (make sure you book your spots ahead) and the Blue Lagoon was amazing – even if it is touristy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of people drove around the golden circle and did hikes that way, but we hiked in a glacier. Amazing.

Don’t forget to try Skyr, ice cream and lobster soup! Yum!!

First time commenting. If you can, totally recommend the Trolltunga hike. The Norway in a Nutshell tour is also pretty good. I believe you can break it up and just do the boat tour in Geirangerfjord which is amazing! Sounds like you have a great tour guide though. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great time!

Hi Lee! I studied abroad in Copenhagen in Fall 2015 – absolutely loved the city, it’s amazing. Below are my recommendations!

Places to go to:
โ€ข Papieron (Paper Island). YOU NEED TO GO HERE.. Itโ€™s basically indoor food vendors in an old paper mill. More information here: http://copenhagenstreetfood.dk/en/
โ€ข Glass Markets (Torvehallerne): Gourmet food vendors โ€“ amazing.
โ€ข Tivoli: famous amusement park; charming atmosphere. Definitely a must-see – If you arenโ€™t into doing rides, I wouldnโ€™t recommend paying for them. General admission (without rides) is a lot cheaper. Itโ€™s fun to just walk around the area and spend a few hours there.
โ€ข Amager Strandpark: One of my favorite places in the city!! The beach is absolutely beautiful. Check it out if the weather is nice – not worth going to if the weather isn’t good.
โ€ข Christiania: If youโ€™ve done any research on Copenhagen, Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ve probably heard about it (Wikipedia search it if you havenโ€™t). Itโ€™s hard to describe, but you should go just to experience it.
โ€ข Church of Our Saviour โ€“ Best view in the whole city!! I recommend this view over the Round Tower. Also, itโ€™s in the Christiana neighborhood district, so you can incorporate it into your plans easily if you plan on going to Christiana.
โ€ข Islands Brygge: city “beach” – really fun to go to if the weather is nice! people are hanging out, listening to music, going in the water, etc. Look into renting a “Go Boat” (http://goboat.dk/). I never got the chance to do this but some of my friends did and raved about how fun it was.
โ€ข The Little Mermaid: if youโ€™re only in CPH for 2-3 days, donโ€™t go. Itโ€™s not worth it!
โ€ข Nyhavn: most photographed spot in the city, great place to sit on the water. The boat tour is cool, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it. It’s not worth your time and there are other things you can do (like I stated above) that are cooler. Also, don’t eat at any of the restaurants on Nyhavn. They are all overpriced and not that good.
โ€ข Kongens Have: A park that is close to the city center so if itโ€™s a nice day and you want to just hang out, Iโ€™d recommend going here.
โ€ข Strรธget: Shopping street in Copenhagen – everyone in Copenhagen has really good style so it’s fun to walk around the street and people watch. I’m pretty sure it’s the longest shopping street in Europe? Some good stores to check out:
o Cos
o Zara
o Samsรธe & Samsรธe
o Moss Copenhagen
o Weekday
o Han
o Norse Projects
o Street Machine
o Cafรฉ Norden: My favorite cafe in the whole city! Itโ€™s right on Stroget. A latte is ~$10 but itโ€™s worth it. Charming, lovely atmosphere.

Restaurants: The food scene here is AMAZING (fresh, sustainable, organic, high quality) – Below are a few of my favorites.
โ€ข Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch:
o Mad & Kaffe โ€“ delicious for brunch!!
o Grรธd โ€“ look up this place on Instagram. It is a little bit outside of the city center, but the street that it is on (Jรฆgersborggade) has other hipster shops / cafes so its worth going around. Also, if you go to Grod, check out the park a block away from it – Assistents Kirkegaard.
o The Yogurt Shop โ€“ close to the city center
o 42Raw
o Dรธp: best hot dog stand in CPH, in city center (they have a vegan hot dog!)
o Kalaset
o The Union Kitchen
o Souls

โ€ข Dinner
o Mother
o Bio Mio
o Neighbourhood
o Radio

โ€ข Cafes/Coffee Shops
o Emmeryโ€™s
o Paludan Bog & Cafรฉ: awesome place, feels like youโ€™re inside a library
o Joe & The Juice: They will be everywhere! A cool chain.
o Big Apple Juice Bar
o Atelier September

โ€ข Bakeries
o Conditori La Glace
o Serenity Cupcakes
o Sankt Peders Bageri: If you’re in CPH on a Wednesday, you NEED to go here after 10 AM on a Wednesday morning. They have the most delicious cinnamon rolls that they only sell on Wednesday mornings.

โ€ข Wine bars/Breweries
o Vesterbro Vinstue
o Vinhanen
o Mikkeller & Friends (aka hipster beer heaven)
o Lidkoeb – cocktail bar

You will notice that everyone in CPH bikes – if you’re feeling up for it, I definitely recommend renting a bike and using that as your mode of transportation! The public transportation in the city is really easy to follow (and they have Uber!). If you still want the CPH “bike” experience, you could also do a bike tour. I never did one because I had my own bike all semester, but I know a few people who did them when their families visited – they said it was great! Something to consider.

Also – the city is extremely expensive. Worth every penny though.

Wow, you’ll have an amazing time in Scandinavia! The scenery will be breathtaking and wonderful for you to have your very own private tour guide in Norway ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve been to Copenhagen about a decade ago with my high school BFF, we spent around 5 days in the city and walked our legs off. We had tons of fun, the Danish people were really welcoming and nice.

Some things I still remember we saw and that I’d recommend: Nyhavn, Tivoli (even if only from the outside, it looks spectacular), Rosenborg Castle, Christiansborg Palace (though we only saw these from outside and strolled their gardens, we didn’t enter), Stroeget, Town Hall Square, and downtown of Copenhagen. We also visited some kind of Citadel-fortress that looked kind of Pentagon-y if I remember correctly.

We saw the iconic Little Mermaid statue, but I remember it wasn’t easy finding it, and I felt it was kind of disappointing how it was hidden near the docks or something like that.

We also took a 1 day trip to Malmล‘ in Sweden, you can take busses or trains and be there in no time.

It’s been a very long time so I don’t remember what we ate, just that we tried their local food and liked everything we ate. Also if you like beer you will have a great variety to choose from.

Can’t wait to hear how/what you liked there! I always love your travel recap posts ๐Ÿ™‚
