We’re back after the summer off! Welcome to September 2023’s edition of Fit Foodie Cooking Club. This month we’re making one of our top rated snacks of all time — Snickers Energy Balls.
What is Fit Foodie Cooking Club?
The Fit Foodie Cooking Club is a monthly cooking challenge to get you in the kitchen cooking from scratch!
We thought there was no better way to bring our virtual community together than to all make the same recipe each month to celebrate real food.
September 2023 – The Details
Read the below details VERY carefully as we want to make sure your entry counts! If you have questions, please leave them in the comments of this post.
Recipe of the Month: Snickers energy balls
We’ve been making energy balls since we started this website in 2010 and these Snickers Energy Balls are an OG recipe. We’ve since tweaked the recipe to make it easier and more accessible with fewer ingredients and steps.
Don’t worry, they are better than ever and quite addicting. While they aren’t a true Snickers bar, they do have lots of the same properties – caramel (dates), peanuts, and chocolate!
All About Snickers Energy Balls
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Medjool dates: make sure to buy Medjool dates that are soft and sticky.
- Oats: both rolled and quick-cooking oats work for this recipe.
- Peanut butter: we recommend an all-natural, drippy peanut butter such as Smuckers.
- Honey: honey elevates the flavor of the peanut butter and chocolate.
- Dark Chocolate: every Snickers bar deserve a little chocolate topping!
- Salted peanuts: top your energy balls with salted peanuts for the cherry on top.
our favorite
Peanut Butter
Smuckers All-Nautral Peanut Butter is our go-to drippy peanut butter for baking!
Tools You’ll Need
A few tips
Make them your own: The great thing about energy balls is that you can really make them your own. If you can’t do peanut butter, try a different drippy nut butter such as almond butter or cashew butter.
Instead of the dark chocolate, try semi-sweet chocolate chips or a dairy-free chocolate chip.
Freeze ’em! We love to keep our Snickers energy balls in the freezer for an easy dessert that we can just put on a platter and serve!
For a vegan alternative: To make these energy balls vegan, swap the honey with maple syrup and use dairy-free chocolate chips.

Charity of the Month
Brave Like Gabe
Each month we’ll select a different charity to support. September 2023’s charity of the month is the Brave Like Gabe Foundation. We’ll be doubling the match from our giveaway winners to donate $400 to Brave Like Gabe to aid in their efforts.
Brave Like Gabe is an organization near and dear to our hearts. Gabe Grunewald was a good friend of ours, and Emily serves on their board of directors. We’ll be running the Brave Like Gabe 5k later this month to support their mission to support rare cancer research and empower all cancer survivors through physical activity.
During her cancer journey, Gabe experienced firsthand many of the challenges faced by rare cancer patients and the need for dedicated research funding. She also felt strongly that running and physical activity were like medicine during all phases of her cancer journey.
Gabe passed away in June 2019 and her legacy with the foundation continues to inspire others to share their own struggles while also helping to find better more effective treatments for rare cancer.

We would love for you to support our monthly charity and donate what you can.
