Optional Add-Ins:
The great thing about this chocolate peanut butter smoothie is that it’s really good at masking the flavors of other add-ins such as more spinach and other veggies too! Here are some add-in ideas:
Protein Powder: Swap out a tablespoon or two of the cocoa powder for your favorite chocolate protein powder for more grams of protein.
Vanilla: add a splash of vanilla extract. This will enhance the peanut butter cup flavor.
Frozen Cauliflower: frozen cauliflower is a great veggie to add for more nutrients. I do this in almost all my smoothies and you can’t even taste it!

This looks really good but I can’t eat bananas. Has anyone tried this without bananas or substituted something else for the banana??
Iโm wondering the same. Maybe a substitute of Greek yogurt but whatโs the correct equivalent? One recipe might say โone small bananaโ and another (like this one) says two cups of sliced bananas. Two different types of measurement.
Feel free to add around 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of ice, and honey to taste in place of banana!
Is the spinach for the peanut butter/choc. smoothie frozen, fresh or canned? Anxious to try this.
You can use either! I used fresh.
Hi, I was wondering if there was an alternative to the banana in the recipe.
Hey Brandy! I haven’t tried any other fruit, but you could try ice!
Hi, Lee! I’m really into smoothies lately, so I’ve been grabbing a few of your recipes for variety. This one looks awesome! Have you ever tried it with almond butter instead of peanut butter? Also, do you have a favorite blender make/model? I’m shopping for a new one and there are SO many choices. ๐ Thanks!!!
Yes I have!!!! You could totally do this with almond butter…it’s delicious! So I just got a blender/food processor duo that I am OBSESSED with! It’s the Ninja Kitchen (http://amzn.to/20Bc4Wq). It’s super powerful and it’s a two in one, which is AMAZING.
This smoothie is DELISH!!! I’m sipping on it as I type this…..one question, though. In the picture your smoothie looks thick, kinda like pudding consistency, which would allow for the layering. Mine is quite liquid-y, and the layers just combined as I poured the chocolate layer onto the peanut butter layer. It still tastes great, just curious how you got them to layer so nicely. :-))
YAY! Glad you love it. It really all depends on 1. how big your banana is and 2. how frozen it is!
Made this today after my pole fitness workout. It is DELICIOUS! Not to mention healthy and SUPER filling. I almost can’t believe there is spinach in this (you can’t taste it at ALL) I’m gonna make this for my boyfriend who is addicted to chocolate so hecan still get some chocolate in a healthier way, lol Although I didn’t layer mine soit wasn’t as pretty, I can’t wait tomake this again!
WOOOOO! It’s that awesome that you can sneak spinach in there and not even know it! WINNING.
Hi Lee – I won’t have a problem getting my family to eat a smoothie with this recipe!
Chocolate and peanut butter …yummm…yummmm…:-) Any substitute for almond milk in this recipe?

Hi,
I am wondering how you figured the nutrition information for this smoothie. When I enter it into MyFitness Pal calorie counter, it comes out to nearly 500 calories! Just the banana’s alone are over 200 calories. I am just curious as to how you calculate your information to see if I am reading it wrong. This smoothie was great, and even at 400 calories it would make a great on-the-go breakfast!
