Celebrate your birthday the right way and start off with these HEALTHY Birthday Cake Batter Overnight Oats. They’re prepped in less than 5 minutes and packed with healthy ingredients.
If you don’t like sprinkles, I don’t know if we can be friends. I remember as a kid when I would visit my grandparents in Chicago they would take us to Ben and Jerry’s. Every time I would order a scoop of chocolate ice cream in a cone with a cup of extra extra sprinkles on the side so that I could dip. Yes, I said extra extra because ever bite of ice cream desserts sprinkles.
Who is with me?
Linley and I are obsessed with this recipe! We tested a few different variations and found that extra vanilla is key. Oh, and the sprinkles…duh! The base is so delicious and vanilla-ey made with…
- Better Oats Organic Rolled Oats (because rolled oats in overnight oats is the best)
- chia seeds
- Greek yogurt
- almond milk
- vanilla extract
Like I’ve mentioned in many overnight oat recipes, old fashioned oats are the way to go! They are going to give you that chewy delicious text you love and soak up just enough liquid. If you want to double or triple the batch for some meal prep or to share, go for it! The one thing we suggest (and you will see this in the video) is adding the sprinkles right before serving. If you let the sprinkles sit in the fridge over night, they will bleed and your oatmeal will turn a brown/green color. Ain’t nobody want that to happen.
These oats will last around 4 days in the fridge…in case you were wondering 😀
Birthday Cake Batter Overnight Oatmeal
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- ½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 cup milk any kind (I used unsweetened almond milk)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles
- Place all ingredients (except sprinkles) into a bowl and mix until combined.
- Place in the refrigerator, covered, for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Remove from fridge, mix sprinkles into oats and Enjoy!
Tips & Notes
**It should stay good refrigerated for up to 3-4 days.
**Depending on how thick you like your overnight oats, you may add a splash of almond milk before serving.

These were spectacular! I used great value light greek yogurt as the sweetened base and added maple syrup instead of honey. Split into two ramekins, covered with cling wrap, and put in the fridge overnight. My mother & I enjoyed ours cold & topped with sprinkles & slivered almonds. Utterly delicious (tasted just like cake batter!) 🎂
I’m so glad you and your mom loved these overnight oats! <3
Can you use maple syrup instead of honey?
Yes you can!
This recipe looks good! Can I asked why you used Greek yogurt? Does it affect the taste or texture? Regular yogurt is what I normally have in my fridge
Hi Briella! We use Greek yogurt because we love the creamy texture and the tart taste that it gives recipes. Feel free to use whatever yogurt you have at home!
Do you have a link of where you can get these jars? Love😍
They are weck jars from Crate and Barrel!
Can I add protein powder?
This looks so good! What a great way to make someone feel special on their birthday!
Right?! I pretend everyday is my birthday so I can eat these 🙂
These are the first overnight oats I have liked! I’m so excited because with a newborn it’s great to have a healthy grab and go I can eat while nursing!
YAY!! So good, right?!
Cannot wait to try this recipe tonight!! Btw, thank you for elaborating on why you prefer to use old fashioned oats. I desperately wanted to know the difference and why it is preferred 🙂
I have quick outs but not rolled, can I use those??
Those will work!
What do you cover these with? A lid or Saran Wrap or foil?
All of the above work!
This smelled amazing when I was making it! The next morning it had a metal taste to it….??
Any ideas on why? What brand of yogurt do you use?
That is really bizarre! We use Fage, but I also love Siggis.
This looks amazing!
I cant wait to try. x
This sounds so yummy! And I love the sprinkles, too cute!
Is there a non dairy alternative to the greek yogurt??? I would love to try but am not sure what to substitute.
Hey Meghan! I would just sub the Greek yogurt for more almond milk!
You could do a store-bought non dairy yogurt (almond, coconut, cashew, soy), or make a cashew cream with a splash of vinegar and use that.
Obsessed with this recipe! I love anything with sprinkles, so adding it to overnight oats just makes it 100x better!!
The glass jars are very cute Lee….where did you purchase….the oatmeal looks yum….
They are 10 oz. Weck Jars from Crate and Barrel! http://rstyle.me/n/cf9bvmb6pp7
