Best Bread for Avocado Toast

We love both the flavor and texture of sourdough bread for avocado toast, which is why we’re using bakery style sliced sourdough for these recipes. Want to opt for a different variety of bread? Go for it!

We recommend a sturdy and crusty bread, that allows you to easily pick up the avocado toast without losing all the toppings.

Here are a few of our recommendations:

Avocado Toast Seasoning

For each of these avocado toast recipes, we’re seasoning them a little bit differently to give them the very best flavor. We’re using:

  • Everything bagel seasoning for the egg on avocado toast
  • Balsamic and olive oil for the caprese avocado toast
  • Za’atar seasoning for the Mediterranean avocado toast

Egg on Avocado Toast

This egg on avocado toast recipe is a classic take on breakfast avocado toast. We’re jazzing ours up with everything bagel seasoning and sliced white cheddar ๐Ÿ˜€

How to Make egg on avocado toast

  1. Soft boil an egg: Bring a small pot of water to a boil, and soft boil the egg by adding it to the water and boiling for 7 minutes. When the egg is done, run the egg under cold water and carefully peel the shell of the egg.
  2. Toast bread: While the egg is cooking, place sourdough in the toaster and toast until golden brown. 
  3. Assemble avocado toast: Drizzle olive oil over the toast and then smash the avocado on the toast with a fork. Then, place cheddar cheese on top of the avocado, and then the soft boiled egg on top of that. Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning over the toast and ENJOY.

Caprese Avocado Toast

This caprese avocado toast is oh so fresh and flavorful with help from sliced tomato, sliced avocado, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • A slice of sourdough bread
  • Avocado (of course!) 
  • Sliced tomato 
  • Sliced mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Olive oil

How to make Caprese Avocado Toast

  1. Toast bread: Place sourdough in the toaster and toast until golden brown. 
  2. Assemble avocado toast: Slice the avocado into 3-4 slices. Place one avocado slice on the very edge of the toast, then place a slice of tomato layered over the avocado, followed by a slice of mozzarella. Repeat until the toast is layered with avocado, tomato, and mozzarella.
  3. Drizzle and garnish: Drizzle all of the ingredients with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and then top with fresh basil and ENJOY.

Mediterranean Avocado Toast

Crumbly feta, sliced red onion, za’atar seasoning, and a squeeze of fresh lemon come together to make this Mediterranean avocado toast absolutely delicious!

Ingredients

  • A slice of sourdough bread
  • Avocado (of course!) 
  • Sliced red onion
  • Za’atar seasoning 
  • Feta crumbles 
  • Sliced fresh lemon
  • Olive oil

How to make Mediterranean Avocado Toast

  1. Toast bread: Place sourdough in the toaster and toast until golden brown, and then drizzle with olive oil. 
  2. Assemble avocado toast: Use a fork to smash the avocado with a fork and evenly spread the avocado smash out on the toast, then spread the sliced red onion over the avocado and sprinkle the za’atar seasoning and feta over the avocado. 
  3. Garnish: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the avocado toast and ENJOY.

Ingredients 

Mediterranean Avocado Toast

  • 1 slice sourdough bread, we used a bakery sourdough loaf
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ small/medium avocado, pitted
  • 6-8 thinly sliced red onions slices
  • 1 teaspoon za’atar seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon feta crumbles
  • 1 slice fresh lemon

Caprese Avocado Toast

  • 1 slice sourdough bread, we used a bakery sourdough loaf
  • ½ small/medium avocado, pitted
  • 4 medium tomato slices
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves

Egg on Avocado Toast 

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice sourdough bread, we used a bakery sourdough loaf
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ small/medium avocado, pitted
  • 2 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning

Instructions 

Mediterranean Avocado Toast

  • Place a piece of sourdough bread in the toaster. 
  • When the toast is golden brown, remove from the toaster and drizzle the toast with olive oil. 
  • Scoop the avocado meat out of the avocado and place it on the toast. Use a fork to smash the avocado with a fork and evenly spread the avocado smash out on the toast. 
  • Spread the thinly sliced red onion over the avocado and sprinkle the za’atar seasoning and feta over the avocado. 
  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the avocado toast and enjoy. 

Caprese Avocado Toast

  • Place a piece of sourdough bread in the toaster. 
  • Remove the toast from the toaster when golden brown. 
  • Slice the avocado into 3-4 slices. Place one avocado slice on the very edge of the toast, then place a slice of tomato layered over the avocado, followed by a slice of mozzarella. Repeat until the toast is layered with avocado, tomato, and mozzarella (how many slices of each ingredient used varies by how big your slice of bread is). 
  • Drizzle all of the ingredients with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. 
  • Top with fresh basil and enjoy. 

Egg on Avocado Toast

  • Place cheddar cheese on top of the avocado and then set the soft boiled egg on top of the cheese and cut it in half. 
  • Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning over the toast and enjoy.

I pinned this so that I could try all three versions. So far, I cannot get past the first one I tried – with the egg, cheese, and everything bagel seasoning. I keep making it over and over again. The addition of the seasoning is genius. And I am not even a big fan of avocado.
