“Loooooove this smoothie so much, it gets me through the morning and into the afternoon. I use a full cup of unsweetened almond milk instead of 3/4 and I like the consistency of the smoothie more that way. Sooooooo good! And it’s healthy!!” – Sarah
Here at FFF, we LOVE smoothies, especially because they’re an easy way to consume a bunch of whole foods in one drink! This matcha smoothie is here to take over your breakfast recipes. It’s green, clean, with a little caffeine 😉. Ditch your morning coffee and make this Matcha Smoothie, made with frozen bananas, high quality matcha powder, spinach, and almond milk!
At addition of matcha powders will give your smoothie a slightly earthy taste and intense green color. Plus, you’ll get a caffeine boost without the coffee.
What You Need to Make a Matcha Smoothie
- Banana Slices: You’re gonna want ripe frozen bananas for this recipe! Check out how we freeze bananas for smoothies and other recipes.
- Matcha Powder: We’ve tried a variety of different matcha powders and really like Matchabar.
- Fresh Spinach: Adds leafy greens and fiber to the mix! Feel free to leave this out if you’re not a fan:
- Vanilla Extract: We love using vanilla extract to add a slight vanilla flavor to our smoothies.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk: Adds a hunt of creaminess to our Matcha Smoothie!
- High-Speed Blender: You’ll need a high-speed blender to give everything a super creamy texture. We love our Vitamix!
Banana Match Smoothie Variations
- Protein: Add a boost of protein with some high-quality protein powder! We love Teras Whey, Garden of Life Organic Whey Protein Powder, and Garden of Life Raw Organic Vanilla Protein Powder. For more protein powder recommendations, check out our Guide to the Best Protein Powder. You could also add Greek yogurt for a creamy protein boost as well.
- Milk: Not a fan of almond milk? Use milk alternatives like oat milk, coconut milk, or cashew milk! You could also use dairy milk if you like.
- Sweetener: If you like your smoothies a little bit sweeter, add a natural sweetener like maple syrup, honey, or monk fruit extract.
- Ginger: Adds a zesty, refreshing zing to your smoothie! Grate a little ginger into your blender before blending.
- Coconut: Add coconut water or coconut cream to your smoothie to make coconut matcha smoothies!

This recipe is DELICIOUS. I actually made it without the vanilla extract (purely because I forgot lol). I used unsweetened oat milk and chia seeds as substitution. 5/5
Thanks for sharing that these substitutions worked for you, Audra!
Could you make this into ice cream if you froze it?
I’d say you could if you used a higher fat content of milk/milk alternative and make sure it’s in an airtight container!
What quantity does this recipe make? Like how many ounces?
