It’s All About the CRUNCH

No matter what I’m eating, I am someone that needs a variety of textures when I am eating a meal. If I am having a creamy soup, I need some bacon bits on the top or some crackers to go along with my soup. The same goes for breakfast! I love smoothies and greek yogurt, but not without the crunch of some GRANOLA. We are big fans of delicious granola recipes here on Fit Foodie Finds.

Ingredients You’ll Need

This blueberry orange granola is a refreshing granola recipe that uses some traditional granola ingredients and some not-so-traditional ingredients as well! Here’s what you’ll need!
  • Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • Slivered Almonds
  • Dried Blueberries
  • Coconut Flakes
  • Honey
  • Flax meal
  • Orange Zest
  • Orange Extract
  • Coconut Oil

How to Make Crunchy + Crispy Oatmeal

How do you make perfect granola? It takes a special balance between your ingredients, the oil or fat the you use to crips up the oats, and the bake temp and time! If you like SUPER crispy granola we suggest that you never skimp on your oil. We use coconut oil to crips up this recipe, but adding a tablespoon of extra coconut oil (or butter) usually helps to crisp up those oats! Before and after baking granola

How to serve with this granola!

There are so many different ways that you can serve this granola! Feel free to eat this granola by the handful. Here are a couple of other ways we like to eat this granola! On top of smoothies. Add a little crunch to your favorite smoothie by adding this granola! Our top smoothie recommendations would be this orange creamsicle smoothie or this strawberry protein shake. A topper for oatmeal. We love adding this granola to our overnight oats (mixed in or topped) or we love to sprinkle these oats on top of any of our hot oatmeals, too! Perfect for parfaits! When in doubt, add this blueberry orange granola to some yogurt and fruit!

Substitution Options

Sometimes you are in the mood for granola, but you don’t feel like running to the grocery store, we get it! Here are some great substitution options for this blueberry orange granola. Old fashioned oatmeal–> Quick cooking oats Dried blueberries—> Any dried fruits (cranberries, cherries, apricots, etc.) Honey–> Maple syrup Orange Extract–> Orange juice and extra orange zest OR vanilla extract Coconut Oil–> Butter

How long does this granola last?

We recommend keeping this recipe in the refrigerator in an air tight container, because there is orange zest and dried blueberries in it! This granola should last about a week in the refrigerator. blueberry orange granola in a bowl with milk

So funny thing. I got a zester for Christmas one year, used it in one recipe..and never again!! I would always see recipes that needed lemon zest or whatever and be like “oh woe is me I wish I had one” haha. I should bust it out just for the heck of it now!!
