My love affair with avocados really began when I started dating my husband, Cole. Not only does Cole make amazing guacamole (it’s a secret family recipe), but his parents live in San Miguel de Allende, where the ginormous avocados are just waiting to be smashed into this avocado spread.

Team Fit Foodie has since added many avocado recipes to our repertoire. And? they’re not all edible! Our DIY Oatmeal Avocado Face Mask highlights the benefits avocado has on your skin.

How is avocado spread different than guacamole?

While avocado spread and guac are VERY similar, avocado spread is a true spread. That means, that there are no chunks and other add-ins involved such as onion, tomatoes, or jalapeños.

What You Need to Make Avocado Spread

  • Avocado: Make sure the avocados are ripe! You’ll know when they’re ready when the skin gives slightly to pressure.
  • Lime juice: Freshly squeezed is best, but bottled will also work.
  • Avocado oil: We kept to the avocado theme and used avocado oil, but you can also use olive oil if that’s what you have on hand.
  • Sea salt: This brings out the flavor of the avocado and helps to balance out the creaminess.
  • Garlic: This recipe uses 1 teaspoon of garlic, but if you’re a garlic fiend, feel free to add more!
  • Fresh cilantro: This is optional, but it adds a nice flavor and color to the spread.
  • Food processor: Making this avocado spread in a food processor is the easiest and quickest way, but you can also use a blender or mash everything together by hand.

What if I don’t like cilantro?

Now, we know some of you are not huge cilantro fans, and that is OK! Swap out the cilantro and lime juice for basil and lemon juice. It is just as delicious AND nutritious!

Other Delicious Add-Ins for This Avocado Toast Spread

Roasted red pepper: Dice up some roasted red peppers and mix them into the spread for a delicious smoky twist.

Sun-dried tomatoes: Add some tangy sun-dried tomatoes for a burst of flavor.

Jalapeño: If you like a little heat, add some diced jalapeño to give your avocado spread a kick.

Everything bagel seasoning: Get creative with toppings and sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top of your avocado toast. You won’t regret it!

The process of making avocado spread

here’s a tip!

If you’re having trouble blending your avocado spread, try adding up to a tablespoon of water or more lime juice to help thin it out.

Storage

This avocado toast spread is best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Just give it a stir before serving again.

The suggestion to swap cilantro for basil and lime for lemon is a nice alternative. I tried it on toast with everything bagel seasoning, and it worked well. Thanks for sharing

I liked the recipe, only that I use half the amount of garlic and I up the amount of lime I put in there. Other than that, delicious
