How to Make Cashew Butter
First things, first. We like to make our cashew butter with roasted cashews! It adds flavor and depth to cashew butter. You can buy cashews roasted or you can roast them yourself!
If you only have access to raw cashews, don’t fret. You can roast cashews in your oven and then make them into cashew butter. Just roast them for at 350ºF for 15-20 minutes!
After you have roasted cashews, you are going to make TWO LAYERS of cashew butter. One vanilla and one chocolate. You are going to make them like two separate nut butters and then swirl them together.
Add all of your ingredients for the vanilla cashew butter first process the cashews for 4-5 minutes or until cashew butter is smooth. Then repeat for the chocolate later. Swirl them all together and BOOM. Delicious cashew butter.
pro tip
Sometimes when you add cold ingredients like honey or maple syrup to freshly blended cashew butter, it can seize the nut butter. Have no fear, we have an easy fix!
Try this If your cashw butter isn’t thick!
Adding maple or honey can thicken things up and take way the cashew butter’s drippy consistency. My trick is adding a little coconut oil to thin things out again. Works like a charm!
What is the best machine to make nut butter?
The best machine for making the creamiest cashew butter is a high powered food processor! There is no better kitchen investment than a food processor.
We love our 14-cup Cuisinart Food Processor. Any high powered food processor will do, but be sure you get between a 10-14 cup bowl! You want to have a big enough bowl to make nut butters, coleslaw, and nice cream!
How to Store Cashew Butter
Homemade cashew butter can last between 1-3 months in a cool dark place as long as you store it in an airtight container.

This looks amazing…thanks for posting and can’t wait to try it! By the way, Penzey’s spices has the best deal on whole vanilla beans that I’ve seen. You can get 3 whole beans for $9, or 15 (that’s right, 15) whole beans for $35. And in case you’re wondering, these are full-size, high quality vanilla beans 🙂
AHHHH Penzey’s is my bestie. They are Milwaukee-based, which makes me even happier 🙂
Once prepared, I assume you store in the fridge? How long does it keep?
This looks amazing….definitely gotta try this!!!
This cashew butter is calling out my name1 LOVE the chocolate swirl in there! And what? Sale on cashews at Target??
I know right. GET OUTA MY WAY PEOPLE. I gotta go buy out Target’s cashew collection.
You had me at actual vanilla beans!! Those vanilla spots are the best. I always look out for those in all vanilla products!! I Actually wonder why aaall Americans use this vanilla extract and paste and why it’s SO uncommon here, like you can’t buy it anywhere but online and only for a ton of bugs. But real vanilla bean? Everywhere in the baking section! Mostly sound 3 euros but at some Aldi stores I’ve found them even for only 1!! The flavour is sooo amazing!
I’m with Arman on the chocolate vs vanilla question. You can always add that cocoa powder 😉
I like your swirl recipe collection!!
Are you kidding! THAT IS SO CHEAP. 1 euro. I’d get like 50 of them and that’s not a joke! They are soooo expensive here in the states.
I’ve definitely made cashew butter with the exact same cashews!! <3 Target! <3 I think I have 3 enormous jars of PB but definitely need to make some homemade! Just bought cashews after glimpsing this post earlier haha
Where did you get those jars?? I want to buy a dozen of them!!!
I think I got the jars from Crate and Barrel? They were actually pretty cheap! Whoooop!
Omg this looks seriously amazing! I love me some nut butter- I currently have almond butter (2 jars because one is almost out and I always make sure I have backup) peanut butter and a cashew-macademia nut butter! But I think this needs to be added to the list next! I love how this isn’t full of sweetener too like some nut butter recipes are! Can’t wait to take my food processor for a spin! And chocolate all the way!
I love that…take your food processor for a spin. I’m way more into food processors than cars 😀
This sounds like the best thing ever, Lee!! I LOVE cashew butter and the addition of chocolate makes it pretty perfect. Want to ship me some? Haha, jk! 😉
😀 😀 😀 I’d totally ship you some.
