Now that the leaves are starting to turn and autumn is in the air, we’re craving all the warm drinks, including this delightfully cozy London fog drink! A traditional London fog latte is made with earl grey tea, steamed milk, and a little sweetness. Today’s variation is served hot, but we also have an iced London fog latte recipe.

Use your favorite kind of earl grey tea, milk, and sweetener of choice to whip up this coffee shop-worthy drink at home! Simply steep tea with hot water and a little sugar and top it off with steamed milk. We tested this recipe with dairy and non-dairy milk and both versions were delicious. Our favorite latte was made with oat milk – it added the perfect amount of hearty, sweet flavor!

London Fog Drink Variations

Serve it Iced: Instead of serving this London fog drink hot, chill the earl grey tea and serve it over ice with cold milk. Here’s our recipe for an iced London fog latte.

Sweetener: Replace the granulated sugar with maple syrup, honey, or simple syrup. For a burst of flavor, use a vanilla or lavender simple syrup.

Make it Dirty: For a more intense flavor, add a shot of espresso along with the milk in step 4.

For best taste, enjoy this London fog drink immediately after making it. We don’t recommend making these lattes ahead of time to enjoy later.

Here’s how to make a batch that serves 6:

Place 6 earl grey tea bags and 2 tablespoons of sweetener into a large jar. Pour in 3 cups of hot water. Let the tea steep for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the tea has steeped, remove the tea bags and pour evenly into 6 mugs.

Steam 3 cups of milk in batches in a milk steamer or all at once in a small saucepan on the stovetop. Top each mug with steamed milk and enjoy!

Ingredients 

  • 1 earl grey tea bag
  • 1/2 cup hot water, about 150ºF
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar*, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup milk, any kind

Instructions 

  • Place the tea bag in a bowl or mug. Add the hot water and sugar.

  • Allow the tea to steep for 3-4 minutes depending on how strong you like your latte. Stir occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  • While the tea steeps, use a milk steamer to steam your milk of choice.
