It’s Chai Spice Season

Say hello to another delicious recipe that uses chai spice! We have been using our chai spices in some delicious fall recipes and loving it.

Why use chai spices?

Using chai spice in recipes is a great way to add just a little flavor and spice to any recipe!

We use our chai spices in FFF recipes around this time of the year! We love to make a big batch of chai spice and use it in recipes like these chocolate chai greek yogurt cream cheese bars, this chai tea latte AND THIS CHAI PROTEIN SHAKE.

All the ingredients for the chai protein shake in a blender.

Chai Protein Shake Essentials

This coconut chai protein shake is a gift from the chai gods! It is creamy, spicy, packed with protein, healthy fats! We are big fans of protein shakes here on FFF. Here is everything you need for this tasty protein smoothie.

Base

Usually we use frozen fruit as the base of most of our smoothies and shakes. We used a secret ingredient to make this shake extra delicious. FROZEN COCONUT MEAT. The combination of frozen banana and frozen coconut meat makes the creamiest and most decadent base.

Flavor

What does this protein shake taste like? It tastes like a cold coconut milk chai latte! With the combination of the chai spices and the coconut meat, you are left with a spicy and creamy shake that you’ll want to make every morning.

Protein Powder

We have a few different protein powders that we love to use in smoothies. For this smoothie we used The Garden of Life Vanilla Protein Powder. Honestly, any vanilla protein powder will work (whey, plant based, etc.).

For more details on our favorite protein powders check out this guide to protein powders!

Liquid

What liquid you use is up to you! We use an unsweetened almond milk most of the time, but feel free to use any of the liquid options below in this coconut chai protein shake.

  • Dairy milk
  • Coconut milk
  • Coconut water

Chai Protein Shake Questions

Can I use a different frozen fruit?

Yes, feel free to get creative with your frozen fruit. We prefer frozen banana in this protein shake because it adds a delicious creamieness to the shake. However, any of the frozen fruits below would be delicious.

  • Frozen strawberries
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen peaches
  • Frozen pineapple

Where do I find frozen coconut meat?

Frozen coconut meat is becoming more popular so it is popping up at more and more grocery stores! We found our coconut meat at Fresh Thyme, but you can usually find it at Lunds and Byerlys, Whole Foods, and your local coop!

5 stars
This could very well be the best smoothie Iโ€™ve ever tasted! And making your own chai spice mix (link included in the recipe) takes mere minutes and is far superior to purchased chai spice mixes.
