Kombucha Lemonade

Oddly enough, this kombucha lemonade tastes strangey like an Arnold Palmer.

Which just so happens to be my ALL TIME FAVORITE SUMMER DRINK!

I have been a kombucha queen for the past few months. There is a Whole Foods literally in the same parking lot as Corepower Yoga Edina, where I teach twice a week…which is where I first experimented with kombucha.

What the heck is kombucha?

Kombucha is beverage produced by fermenting tea with a culture of bacteria and yeast. It’s made from sugar, tea, and SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast).  The final product is fizzy and slightly sweet.

What the what?

Yes, there are strains of live active cultures floating around in kombucha, but it is SO GOOD FOR YOU.

So that Arny Palmer I tasted- it makes so much sense! Fermented Tea + Lemonade…it’s basically a Kombucha Arny Palmer!

Health Benefits of Kombucha

  • Improves Immune Health
  • Improves Digestive Health
  • Loaded with Probiotics
  • Helps Reduce Blood Pressure
  • Aids in Increasing Metabolism

Those are just a few. I found an amazing article about kombucha that breaks everything down here. It will even teach you how to brew your own kombucha, which I have not explored doing myself just yet 😀

One of the main reasons that I drink kombucha is for the probiotic. I’ve met with nutritionists (both RD’s and hollistic nutritionists) and they always recommend a probiotic. By drinking one of these a week, there really is no need for the probiotic.

There are lots of different kombucha brands and flavors out there. I usually drink the brand Synergy because that’s what’s readily available in the Twin Cities. If I am going for an already flavored variety- my favorite in the guava. A single bottle of kombucha sells for about $3.99. The way I look at is is- a cappuccino or even a cup of coffee from Starbucks. There are 2 servings in each bottle, so they usually last me 2-3 days.

In today’s recipe, I used a bottle of plain kombucha. This flavor is tangy and fizzy…so I thought I would add some citrus and a little more sweetener for the perfect summer drink.

I also added some blueberries for some color 😀 Cuz- why not?!

We brew our own kombucha and we’ll definitely need to give this version a try! We loooove Arnold Palmers, so this will probably be my new go-to way to enjoy kombucha!

SO COOL! I don’t know why, but I’m afraid to do it!!!! Can’t you use the strains from inside of a store bought kombucha to grow more? Or is that a myth?

o0o!!!!!!!! Thanks for passing that on. Maybe I will finally man up and make some. My mom made kefir for a while…and she tried to get me to do it. Again- I wimped out 😀

I have been curious about Kombucha for quite some time now! I really want to try it but as soon as I read the words ‘fermented’ on the bottle I tend to put it down. I’m not sure why it makes me feel so icky. After all, beer is fermented too, and some cheeses and… I guess I should just get over myself already and go for it 😉 These pictures certainly helped! Looks positively thirst quenching.

It took me a while to man up to trying it……but it actually is really yummy! I am a huge fan of carbonation, so that’s what got my about kombucha. Plus- there are so many yummy flavors!

DUDE. I love kombucha. I went through a weird fermentation phase where I made my own. It was so matronly of me. For the record I just made a kombucha recipe…for kombucha sangria because OBVS there had to be alcohol in it #Ihaveaproblem

I LOVE kombucha! I actually crave it now. My favorite is mango madness by synergy. What classes do you teach at corepower. I live/work right by that one and go there occasionally.

I’m so going to try this! Ginger kombucha is my favorite. I was making my own last year, but when I moved, I had to throw out my scoby (doesn’t travel well haha). I do want to get back into it – I used a kombucha kit I ordered. PS: Kombucha is also great as part of a cocktail :)

I have been brewing kombucha for several months now and love to add lemon but in small amounts with ginger or other flavors. I love the idea of creating a kombucha “lemonade”. We have a prolific lemon tree and in about 6m will be loaded down with lemons, what a great idea!

It’s so easy. All you need is a SCOBY from a friend or on-line. You add a little raw kombucha to cooled down sweet tea and the SCOBY and let it ferment. So little work! You can even just use a good amount of raw kombucha and make your own SCOBY (I’ve heard) – although it’d probably need to ferment for a longer amount of time. Good luck! It is so much more economical and you can flavor with anything that you like. I’m loving watermelon basil right now – tastes like summer in a glass!

Ahhhh yes! One of my best friends Davida from TheHealthyMaven does her own kombucha and she was telling me all about this SCOBY. Need to look into this more! Thanks for the inspiration :)
