Cake Batter Protein Balls Ingredients
6 ingredient protein balls! That’s right, ball people. These cake batter protein balls come together in just 6 ingredients:
Cashew Butter: Not only does cashew butter add amazing flavor to this recipe, it also acts as a nice binder, as well has adds great moisture to this ball recipe. We love the flavor of cashew butter, but if you prefer another nut butter — got for it!
Pro Tip: make sure you’re using DRIPPY nut butter for these protein balls! This recipe will NOT work with non-drippy nut butter.
Rolled Oats: Oats not only add a healthy dose of fiber, but they give these protein balls a nice bite and act as a great binder to soak up extra moisture.
Honey: Honey is both the sweetener and the glue that holds these balls together! Don’t skip it!
Protein Powder: The taste and texture of protein powder can vary greatly! We used a vanilla whey protein for these protein balls, and needed an additional tablespoon of protein powder for optimal texture.
Vanilla Extract: Just a touch of vanilla will help give these protein balls the cake batter flavor you love!
Rainbow Sprinkles: Is it really cake batter anything without the rainbow sprinkles?!
How to Make Cake Batter Protein Balls
You can whip up these delicious cake batter protein balls in 4 simple steps:
Place all ingredients into a bowl
Use a wooden utensil to mix all ingredients in a bowl until everything is combined. Eventually, it may be easier to knead the dough with your hands.
The dough should be malleable and a little bit oily. If it is not, add water by the teaspoon until it turns into a cookie dough-like dough. A little water goes a long way!
Scoop and Roll Balls
Use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop, and roll protein ball dough balls between your palms.
Time for Sprinkles!
Place additional rainbow sprinkles on a plate and roll balls in the sprinkles and then roll them between your palms one more time to make sure the sprinkles are stuck into the balls.
Enjoy now or save for later
Eat immediately or store for later. These cake batter protein balls will last up to 3 months frozen or up to 1 week in the fridge.

If your protein balls are not sticking together, you probably need to add a little bit more moisture. Add a teaspoon of water at a time until your protein balls stick together to form a nice ball.
IS THERE A GOOD NUT BUTTER SUBSTITUTE FOR cashew BUTTER?
If you don’t have cashew butter on hand, you can substitute it with any other DRIPPY nut butter. Just be sure it’s DRIPPY. The following will work, but flavor will vary slightly:
- Peanut butter
- Almond butter
- Sunflower seed butter
HOW MANY CALORIES are IN ONE Cake Batter PROTEIN BALL?

HOW DO I MAKE PROTEIN BALLS ALL THE SAME SIZE?
You can make sure all your protein balls are the same size by using a cookie dough scooper or a tablespoon.
CAN I STORE MY PROTEIN BALLS IN THE FREEZER?
Yes, after you make your protein balls, freeze them on a cookie sheet to harden, and then place them all in a freezer-safe bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Tips & Notes
- cashew butter: this recipe calls for drippy cashew butter. We love the Good and Gather brand at Target along with Trader Joe's. If your cashew butter is NOT drippy, this recipe will not work. Feel to use peanut butter or almond butter instead.
- protein powder: if you use a whey or collagen-based protein powder, you will likely need more than 1/3 cup. We tested with Bulletproof Vanilla Collagen Protein Powder and needed to use an extra tablespoon of protein powder. Start with 1/3 cup, and increase from there!
