Crockpot Sesame Chicken FTW!
Want to know the best part about owning a crockpot AKA slow cooker? They are seasonal year-round! You heard me, I keep mine out all year because I love it so much! By the way, this slow cooker is very similar to the one I have and currently sells for under $50 on Amazon!
This delicious Crockpot Sesame Chicken Recipe dates back to 2013 and we decided to reinvent it by tweaking the recipe and retaking the photos! It’s still as good as the first time we made it, but much more beautiful.
The bowl helps because guess what? I made it in pottery ๐ I say WE because Linley was actually with me when I made this recipe AND I believe the old photos are the first time her hands made an appearance in a FFF photo. #TBT Gah, I’m going to get all emotional. Okay, so here’s what you need to make this crockpot sesame chicken recipe.
Here’s What You Need
- chicken breast
- honey
- soy sauce (or tamari)
- organic ketchup
- minced garlic
- sriracha
- onion
- sesame seeds

Crockpot Sesame Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breast
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce, or tamari
- 1/4 cup organic ketchup
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 1/2 medium onion, minced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- First, mix honey, soy sauce, ketchup, minced garlic, and sriracha together.
- Then, place chicken and onion into a large crockpot and pour on sauce.
- Turn crockpot to high and let cook for 1.5-2 hours. Or, alternatively, cook on low for 6-8.
- At 1.5 hours, check the chicken breasts to see if they are fully cooked (not pink in the middle). Once they are cooked, take chicken breast out and shred them using two forks.
- Before placing shredded chicken back into crockpot, add 1 tablespoons of cornstarch to the sauce and whisk until it dissolves. Place shredded chicken back into the pot, add sesame seeds, mix with sauce, and let cook for an additional 30 minutes on high.
- Serve with white sticky rice, steamed broccoli, and more sesame seeds.

Dinner was amazing! My kids are even willing to have it again. I think only thing I might try different next time is try low sodium soy sauce.
That’s an easy substitution, and will work great next time! So glad the kids liked it too ๐
This is a recipe i do over and over again ! Its delicious!
So happy to hear it!
This recipe was so good and I am a very picky eater! I also added a bit of sesame oil, only because I didnโt realize I didnโt have enough sesame seeds. It tasted great!
Made this for dinner tonight and wrapped it in a spinach wrap! It was perfect!!! Cooked while I worked and all the eaters were satisfied! Looking forward to my leftovers for lunch tomorrow!
A truly yummy recipe! I made this in the midst of a kitchen renovation and the crockpot and few ingredients made it so quick and easy to prepare. My chicken was done after 1.5 hours in the crockpot on high and then I put the shredded bits back in for another 30 minutes and it cooked perfectly. Super tasty and I would definitely add a bit of sesame oil if you have it, as it gives it that extra needed flavor. I added about 1 tablespoon!
So glad this recipe worked well for you!
I am excited to make this recipe! Unfortunately I donโt have any ketchup as we used it all this weekend. Can I substitute tomato sauce?
Iโm a guy, I read where it said through all the ingredients in the crock pot, so I did… donโt do that! Read the instructions first.
Iโve made this a couple of times now. Thanks for the recipe! I feel like itโs a much healthier dish than what we usually have and quinoa is a super food!! Something missing… couldnโt put my finger on it…. Sesame oil!!! I just threw a couple spoonfuls in, didnโt even measure , yum!!
Thought the flavors were a little flat and I used the ingredients exactly. I bought McCormick Sesame seeds from the spice section and couldnt taste the flavor at all even after sprinkling more on top when serving. Given most of today’s crock pots heat up too fast dont count on your slow to take 6-8 hours. I set mine to 6 hours, and it was done within 2 hours. After whisking in the corn starch, I added the broccoli florets to the pot and gave it a nice stir with the chicken. That was sufficient heating for fresh broccoli. Since I wasnt in love with it, Ill try another sesame chicken recipe for comparison.
Is there a substitute for onions? I made it and it tastes great! I am just not a huge onion fan.
You can just omit the onions!
