This is our favorite summer smoothie recipe. The combination of pineapple, banana, and ginger makes it light and delicious, like a tropical vacation. One way we love to make smoothies taste more refreshing is to add fresh ginger! Ginger is slightly spicy, so mixing it with the sweet fruit makes the perfect combination.
You only need a few ingredients and five minutes to whip up this delicious ginger pineapple smoothie recipe. We love making smoothies because it’s a delicious way to get in a ton of essential nutrients in one sitting! Plus, who doesn’t love tropical flavors?!
And, if you have leftover smoothies, you can follow our smoothie popsicle recipe to turn the rest into a yummy popsicle.

What You Need to Make a Ginger Pineapple Smoothie
- Frozen Pineapple: Look for frozen pineapple chunks. If you can’t find any, cut up a whole pineapple and freeze the chunks.
- Greek Yogurt: We love using plain Greek yogurt to add a boost of protein to our smoothies. Feel free to use non-fat, low-fat, or even high-fat Greek yogurt.
- Flax: Adds some healthy fats and texture.
- Orange Juice: We chose orange juice as the liquid for our smoothie to add a boost of citrusy goodness.
- Bananas: Helps create a creamy texture for our smoothie. Check out how we freeze bananas for smoothies.
- Fresh Ginger: We use fresh grated ginger from the ginger root. It makes such a HUGE difference compared to powdered ginger.
- High-speed blender: We love using our Vitamix for smoothies as it makes the smoothest smoothies.
I don’t have fresh ginger, how much ginger powder should I use?
We recommend halving the amount of fresh ginger to ginger powder. So, use 1 teaspoon.
What can I use in place of orange juice?
If you don’t want to use orange juice, use almond milk, coconut milk, coconut water, oat milk, or any other milk you prefer.
Add Protein Powder!
Every time I make this post-workout with friends, we add 2 scoops of protein powder. Some of our favorite protein powders are Teras Whey, Garden of Life Organic Whey Protein Powder, and Garden of Life Raw Organic Vanilla Protein Powder.
Idea: make a smoothie bowl!
Turn this smoothie into a smoothie bowl by adding it to a bowl with your favorite toppings! It’s like bowl of tropical paradise!
What if I don’t have a blender?
No worries! You can use a food processor instead!
