This lemon garlic hummus is made in 3 simple steps and takes only 5 minutes! Just place all the ingredients into a high-speed food processor — seriously, ALL the ingredients. Then, process, serve, and dip to your heart’s content.
Homemade Hummus Recipe – What You Need
- Garbanzo beans: We drain and rinse these from a can.
- Olive oil: Olive oil is key for a rich and creamy texture.
- Unsalted tahini: A staple in hummus. You can find this in most grocery stores nowadays!
- Sea salt: Just a pinch to bring out the flavors.
- Garlic: We are using raw garlic to give our hummus a nice bite, but you can use roasted garlic for a more subtle flavor.
- Lemon juice: Lemon juice adds a nice fresh and tangy element to our hummus.
- Water: Start with 3 tablespoons, and you may need more later if your hummus is too thick! We’ll get to this.

Lemon Garlic Hummus
Ingredients
- 1 15- oz. can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup unsalted tahini
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons water*
Optional Herby Topping
- 1/4 cup EVOO
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
Instructions
- Place all ingredients for your hummus into a high-speed food processor.
- Then, process on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth.
- Option to add 1 or 2 more tablespoons of water depending on the texture of your hummus. It should be smooth and easily dippable.
- Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days.

First time doing this and something is not clear to me, the garbanzo beans are fresh and then blended, or do I have to cook them in anyway before? A friend told me you have to put them in boiling water for 3 hours before taking them to the blender. Someone?

I’m an all day snacker. My “meals” are super small because of this AND I often have a bedtime snack. Dave’s definitely more a 3 square meals guy but he’s getting more into snacking and not starving.
