How to Make Crunchy No Bake Peanut Butter Balls
Parent friends of the world: this is a GREAT recipe to make with kids. One of the most critical steps in this recipe is crunching up the Chex cereal into tiny pieces with either a wooden spoon or your hands. So fun! And then mashing together with peanut butter and rolling into balls. A fun get-messy-in-the-kitchen kinda recipe that doesn’t require any heat or sharp utensils. Here’s the rundown:
- Crunch up Chex into tiny pieces.
- Mix peanut butter, honey, and brown rice syrup.
- Combine peanut butter mixture with crunched-up Chex.
- Roll the cereal mixture into small balls with your hands.
- Melt chocolate and drizzle over the balls.
- Freeze balls for 10-20 minutes.
- ENJOY!
Peanut Butter Crunch Balls Pantry Staples
Whip these up at a moment’s notice by keeping these pantry staples on hand and ready to go.
- Chex cereal: Plain old rice Chex cereal. It gives the balls the perfect crunch!
- Peanut butter: Choose a creamy peanut butter for this recipe.
- Honey: This is our main sweetener for the balls. If you’re vegan, you can use a different sweetener for this recipe.
- Brown rice syrup: Gives the balls a caramelized, chewy texture without adding too much sweetness.
- Chocolate chips: You can use semisweet or dark chocolate chips for this recipe. We melted these and drizzled this over the balls for a decadent twist.
- Coconut oil: This helps the chocolate chips melt better and creates a smooth, runny consistency for drizzling.
- Parchment paper: So the balls don’t stick to the cookie sheet.
- Mixing bowls: This is for mixing your ingredients.
- Cookie sheet: You’ll need this for when we place the balls in the freezer to set.
- Wooden spoon: We use this to crush the Chex into tiny pieces.
here’s a tip!
If your peanut butter isn’t runny, pop it into the microwave for 20-30 seconds to get a runnier consistency.
Fun Ways to Customize These Bite-Sized Balls
Although we love these peanut butter honey balls as is, you can totally play around with different flavors to suit your preferences.
- Use a different cereal: One way you can jazz up these balls is by using chocolate Chex instead of regular for even more chocolate-y goodness.
- Swap the nut butter: If you’re not a fan of peanut butter, you can swap it with almond butter for a different flavor profile. If you want to make these balls nut-free, you can use sunflower seed butter instead.
- Add protein: Want to make protein peanut butter balls? Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder! We recommend using vanilla protein powder. Keep in mind that adding protein powder may make the mixture more dry, so you may need to add more honey or melted coconut oil for more moisture.

Absolutely! If you have a food processor, you can totally use it for this recipe.
How do I store honey peanut butter Chex balls?
We recommend storing any leftover peanut butter honey Chex balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months.
When you’re ready to enjoy them again, you can eat them straight from the fridge. If frozen, let them thaw in the fridge overnight or on the counter for around 5-10 minutes until thawed.
Peanut Butter Honey Chex Balls
Ingredients
- 6 Cups Chex Cereal
- 1 cup all-natural peanut butter
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 cup brown rice syrup
Optional:
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with a piece of parchment paper. Set aside.
- Pour Chex into a large mixing bowl. Use your hands or a wooden spoon to crush Chex into tiny pieces. Set aside.
- In a separate medium-sized bowl, mix peanut butter, honey, and brown rice syrup. Mix well.
- Pour peanut butter mixture over Chex. Spray a wooden spoon with coconut oil and mix Chex pieces with peanut butter mixture. Mix until combined.
- Form crunch balls by wetting your hands with a little bit of water (you'll need to do this every couple times throughout the rolling process). Scoop 1-2 tablespoon of Chex mixture and form a ball. Place on baking sheet. Repeat until Chex mixture is gone.
- Place baking sheet in the freezer for 10-20 minutes until crunch balls form. Enjoy!
Tips & Notes
- Optionally add melted chocolate: melt chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave. Place bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and then place back in the microwave for another 30 seconds. Stir and drizzle over crunch balls.

How do you store them, in the freezer? If frozen for a few days, do they need to thaw before eating?
Great recipe and fyi in the “notes” section says “Place bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and then place back in the microwave for another 30 minutes…”
I believe it’s supposed to say 30 seconds.
YES! Thank you!
what could I use in place of the brown rice syrup? maple?
You could try maple or honey, but we haven’t tested it and the balls will likely be harder to form ๐ Otherwise, here’s a similar recipe that doesn’t use brown rice syrup: https://fitfoodiefinds.com/crunchy-rice-crispy-peanut-butter-cups/
I will try this recipe tomorrow for my family
