“One of the best frozen margarita recipes I’ve tried, followed exactly except had to add about 3oz fresh lemon juice bc my limes were a little stingy. Popped the rest in a glass container in the freezer for tomorrow and it’s icy and slushy. Thanks for the great recipe!” – Heidi
Frozen margaritas are a summer staple and now you can make them in your own home! Like our Spicy Grapefruit Margarita, these frozen margaritas are made with a few simple ingredients and lots of flavor.
We love this cocktail recipe because we’re huge fans of the tequila + lime combination. It’s smoky, full of citrus, and an absolute dream. This frozen margarita recipe calls for all of the classic margarita ingredients plus the addition of ice…because after all, this recipe is blended!
What You Need to Make a Frozen Margarita
- Tequila – our favorite is Contigo.
- Orange liqueur – triple sec or Cointreau both work.
- Lime juice – the fresher the better!
- Agave nectar – you can also use honey!
- Ice
We chose to sweeten our frozen margarita with agave nectar because it’s more traditional, but we’ve also made this recipe with homemade simple syrup or honey, so the option is yours! We recommend using freshly squeezed lime juice for the best results because, well, the fresher the better!
What can I use instead of orange liqueur?
If you don’t have orange liqueur, try using a splash of fresh orange juice! Orange is really the flavor you’re looking for.
How to Make a Frozen Margarita in a Blender
In order to really make this frozen margarita perfect, we recommend using a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix. You want to make sure that you use something that is strong enough to pulverize the ice into a slushy so that you get that classic frozen margarita consistency.
- Place all of the ingredients into your blender.
- Blend on high until it’s smooth and has a slushy consistency. Feel free to add more ice as needed. S
- Serve in a salt-rimmed glass with a lime wedge and lime zest for garnish.

How to Salt a Rim for Margaritas
To put the cherry on top of this frozen margarita recipe, we love salting the rim of the glass before pouring in your frozen margarita concoction. Here’s what you need:
- coarse sea salt
- water
All you need to do is moisten the rims of the margarita glasses you want to use with water. We do this by pouring water onto a small plate and then dipping the rim of the glass into the water. From there, dip the rim onto a small plate of coarse sea salt. The water will allow the sea salt to stick to the glass.
Variations
Love a frozen margarita, but want to mix it up? Here are some simple variations!
Mango: try our frozen mango margarita by adding some frozen mango into the mix!
Strawberry: you’ll love our strawberry margarita. Strawberries add a bit of tartness and a gorgeous red color to this classic cocktail.
Watermelon: we recently tried frozen watermelon chunks in this recipe and it was NEXT LEVEL good.

Thank you for help me in this article, This is good to me ang many.
I have to try, too. I could not find that wine, though.
Super delish! (As you can see, I already drank my glass dry.) Didn’t have any limes, so I used lemons and simply doubled the agave to accommodate. And the great thing is this recipe freezes really well! I made too much and simply popped the excess into a quart jar. Because of the liquor, it doesn’t freeze completely but stays nice and slushy. 😋
Note: This has been in my freezer for two days and is still perfect for serving straight out of the jar.
Very good. I also have to try. But I couldn’t find that wine. Do you have any suggestions to help? drift f1
Oo great substitutions, and so glad it kept well in the freezer for you to enjoy later! Cheers, Kate!
What is the best Tequila to use? I personally like Jose Quavo Especial(Gold)
Our favorite is Espilon!
Thank you for this recipe! These margaritas were so good!! Very simple & easy!
Yeah..Sounds Delicious..! As well as good for health. I tried this recipe at home. This is a really good margarita drink. Thanks for sharing.
The calorie count on this, is it for the batch or per serving?
Per serving!
Absolutely delicious! This was one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had. I made two adjustments. I used 100% maple syrup instead of agave, and I added some lime zest to the blender.
Love the maple idea!
My adult daughter and I made this frozen margarita last night. Our first “from scratch” frozen cocktail” was a success! Flavor was amazing…we replaced some of the ice cubes with fresh/frozen strawberries (YUM), definitely making it again soon!
LOVE. The strawberry idea!

So hoppy you wuved these, Randy.
This recipe is bomb!
It was my first time making frozen margs and this recipe was so easy and delicious! I added a couple of clementines to it. This will be my go to marg recipe
Love the clementine addition!
Can I make these up a day ahead of time and keep them in the freezer to serve frozen the following day?
Hey Shari, I’m not sure if they would fully freeze in the freezer or not! I would personally make them the day-of!
choase ?
Perfect recipe and it yields the exact amount. So easy, fast, refreshing and delicious! I love margaritas and have them everywhere I go, this will be my house margarita!
Great ratio of ingredients, better than the similar recipe with far more ratings..
These are soooo good! I have made them twice now and each time I’ve loved them! They’re better than any I’ve had in restaurants. ?
Very easy and good. These are just the right amount of sweetness.
