Gorgeous Ahi Tuna Tacos that are perfectly seared with sesame seeds and served with a citrus mango guacamole!
You’ll want to eat these tacos with fresh cilantro, a squeeze of lime, and our homemade mango guac recipe.
Super Simple Ahi Tuna Tacos!
Oh hello, there beautiful tuna tacos. We are huge fans of tacos. We love beef tacos, vegan tacos, fish tacos, and chicken tacos. Pop any kind of meat or veggies into a taco shell and I’ll happily eat it!
We thought we’d get creative with seared ahi tuna tacos because we recently made seared ahi in the Fit Foodie kitchen and were obsessed.
Tips for Perfectly Seared Ahi Tuna
Let it marinate: the longer you let your ahi marinate in the ginger soy sauce, the better! We recommend at least 30 minutes, but 2 hours is gold!
Hot Heat + Oil: the goal with cooking ahi tuna is to NOT overcook. We prefer it rare to medium-rare so that it’s pink in the middle. Make sure to heat at least 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium/high heat so you can get a quick hot sear on the outside.
how long to sear ahi tuna?
- Rare: 30 seconds per side
- Medium rare: 1 minute per side
- Well done: 2 minutes per side
Fresh Toppings for these Tuna Tacos
Mango Guac: we used FFF’s mango guacamole on top of these tacos and it was so perfect. The flavors all complimented each other so well!
Other: In addition to the mango guac, we used a few key fresh ingredients to seal the deal. Here’s what you need:
- fresh cilantro
- red onion
- lime juice
All About the Tortilla
When it comes to tacos, the tortilla matters. Like, we are kind of tortilla snobs and I’m not mad about it. There are so many tortillas on the market such as corn, wheat, and even grain-free!
But, let me share with you our favorite, game-changing tortillas — Mission Street Taco Flour Tortillas. They are the perfect size for tacos and their texture is firm yet chewy. If you’re not a flour tortilla kind of girl, they also make a corn tortilla in the same “street taco” size.
Before serving: We suggest browning your tortillas just a bit. You can pan fry them, but what we like to do is turn our gas burner on and cook them over the flame to get them warm and a little bit crunchy.

This recipe was incredible- so much flavour! This will be a keeper recipe for us!
Added some brown riceā¦ 10/10
I should add that I tried this recipe because I bought a bunch of frozen ahi tuna by mistake (thinking I was getting salmon) and had to figure out what to do with them! I think I might be buying them again on purpose, lol!
Super yum and feels so healthy! The only thing I’d note is I cooked mine for 1 min each side for medium rare and it was way way well done. Would do 30 seconds each side next time!
