Fall Recipes = Best Flavors

Falalala fall recipes are in full swing here at Fit Foodie Finds. We were at the apple orchard last weekend, and came home with the biggest bag of McIntosh apples.

We’ll save some for snacks throughout the week, and made an apple crisp right when we got home, but still had enough to whip up a batch of this delicious crockpot applesauce. SO EASY. SO DELICIOUS.

I also can’t get enough of the color of this applesauce. We were afraid it was going to come out a little too brown with the cinnamon, but it cooked down to this perfect dark fall color. Let’s get into how we made this cinnamon crockpot applesauce.

Sliced apples in a crockpot

How To Make Crockpot Applesauce

  1. First, peel and then core your apples, making sure to remove all the seeds. Then slice the apples, and place the apples + water + honey + cinnamon in the crockpot. The apples will steam themselves and bake down in the crockpot over 4 hours.
  2. The best part? You won’t even need to food process the cooked apples to make the applesauce itself at the end. Just stir through with a fork, and you’re good to go!

small batch tips

We also tested this recipe with a small batch — using only 5 apples, which yielded about 2 cups of applesauce.

The recipe here calls for 10 large apples, but depending on the size of your crockpot, and how many apples you have on hand, you could definitely cut this recipe in half, or double or triple it!

How to Store Applesauce

Fridge

If you’re making the full batch of this crockpot applesauce and you’re not serving a crowd right away, the best way to store this applesauce is in the fridge in an air-tight container. And because it’s not packed with preservatives, it will keep for up to 5 days.

Freezer

You can also freeze this applesauce to keep it for a longer duration. Make sure to freeze in an air-tight container and label the container with applesauce and the date you freeze it. This crockpot applesauce will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.

This is a great option if you’re hoping to cook with this applesauce (like this scrumptious apple bread!), and want to have it ready to go!

Ingredients

  • 10 large apples, I used Macintosh
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons maple, or honey, if not vegan

Instructions

  • Begin by coring, peeling, and slicing your apples.
  • Place apples into a large slow cooker and top with about 1/3 cup of water, 1.5 teaspoons of cinnamon, and 1-2 tablespoons of maple.
  • Let cook on high for about 4 hours. Once the apples are extremely mushy, you know your apples are done! Use a fork to mash the apples to your preferred consistency.

I had 12 honey crisp apples about to go bad and saw this recipe. DUH. Making applesauce today!! I’m a cancer survivor who takes A LOT of chemotherapy with applesauce and I’m so sick of the store bought stuff. UM, THIS IS F**KING DELICIOUS. I put it on low purposely so my entire house would smell delicious all day. Oh, and nursing tip: 20+ meds is way easier to get down the hatch with applesauce ๐Ÿ™‚
