Broiled Salmon with a Honey Sriracha Glaze

You only need 4 ingredients and a WHOPPING 8 minutes to cook this Honey Sriracha Salmon recipe (thanks, oven broiler!). It’s the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors all in one delicious bite. Plus, salmon is a protein powerhouse, so you’ll feel satisfied without feeling weighed down.

For this recipe, we use our favorite honey sriracha glaze, which works for all types of protein, whether you’re making this salmon recipe or our slow cooker honey sriracha chicken! After we whip up the simple honey sriracha sauce, we broil those salmon fillets to juicy perfection, and voila! Dinner is served in under 20 minutes. Now, that’s what I call a win-win!

What You Need to Make Honey Sriracha Salmon

  • Salmon Fillets: We HIGHLY recommend wild-caught salmon as it’s the freshest, cleanest source of salmon you can buy. We love using Surrender Salmon, a local fish supplier in Minnesota! 
  • Sriracha: Where would the spice be without this fiery friend? Sriracha brings the heat and a touch of tang that cuts through the richness of the salmon.
  • Honey: Honey balances the sriracha’s heat with its sweetness. It also helps create a beautiful caramelized glaze on the salmon when it broils.
  • Tamari/Soy Sauce: This adds a savory depth of flavor to the glaze. If you use tamari, it’s a gluten-free option, but regular soy sauce or coconut aminos work too!
  • Salt and Pepper

How to Make Honey Sriracha Salmon

  1. Preheat the Oven: First things first, crank up the heat! Set your oven to broil and grab a baking sheet. Give it a quick spritz with some non-stick cooking spray, or use parchment paper so the salmon doesn’t get stuck later.
  2. Pat the Salmon Dry: We want our salmon nice and dry for even cooking. Pat those fillets down with a paper towel to soak up any excess moisture.

Don’t be tempted to remove the skin from your salmon fillets!  The skin actually helps protect the flesh while it cooks, keeping it nice and moist. Plus, when you broil it, the skin gets super crispy and adds a delicious textural contrast to the flaky salmon.

  1. Whip Up the Glaze: Now for the fun part – the glaze! In a small bowl, whisk together the sriracha, honey, and tamari. The sriracha brings the heat, the honey balances it with sweetness, and the tamari adds a savory touch.
  2. Place Salmon on the Baking Sheet: It’s time to get those fillets on the baking sheet. Lay them down, skin-side down, giving them a little space so they cook evenly.
  3. Glaze and Conquer: Grab a spoon or brush and generously coat the tops of the salmon with that delicious sriracha glaze. Make sure you wipe up what gets on the pan because you’ll be using the broil setting on your oven and don’t want this extra sauce to burn!
  4. Broil Time! Here comes the fast part. Pop that baking sheet with the salmon into the oven under the broiler. Set your timer for 8 minutes, but keep an eye on it – broiling times can vary depending on your oven.
  5. Flaky Perfection: After 8 minutes, carefully take the baking sheet out of the oven. How do you know it’s done? Gently take a fork and try to flake the salmon. If it breaks apart easily, you’re golden! If it’s still too firm, give it another minute or two under the broiler.
  6. Dinner is Served! Once your salmon is cooked through and beautifully glazed, take that baking sheet out and plate those delicious fillets. Now grab a fork, dig in, and enjoy that sweet and spicy goodness!

And that’s seriously it! In only 8 minutes, you’ll have the most flakey and delicious salmon. We served ours with some white sticky rice and Asian green beans. YES TO THE PLEASE. Enjoy!

Why Use the Broiler and Not Bake the Salmon?

Alright, so here’s the deal with the broil for this Honey Sriracha Salmon. It all boils down to speed and that crispy, caramelized goodness.

The broiler in your oven is basically a super-powered heating element that cooks food super fast with intense heat from above. This is perfect for salmon because it cooks the flesh through quickly while leaving the top nice and flaky. But the best part? That high heat gets the sriracha sauce bubbling and caramelizing on the top, giving it this amazing sweet and spicy glaze.

Sure, you could bake the salmon at a lower temperature, but it would take longer, and you wouldn’t get that samedelicious crust on the top. Broiling is the way to go for a fast, flavorful salmon dinner that’s healthy and satisfying. Trust me, that sweet and spicy glaze is worth the 8-minute broil!

Can I use other types of fish besides salmon?

Sure! This recipe would work well with other firm-fleshed fish like cod, halibut, or swordfish. Just keep in mind that cooking times might vary slightly depending on the thickness of the fish.

My salmon is super thick. Will 8 minutes of broiling be enough?

Probably not. For thicker salmon fillets (over 1 inch thick), you might need to broil for an additional 2-3 minutes, keeping a close eye on it to avoid overcooking.

I’m not a huge fan of spicy food. Can I adjust the amount of sriracha?

Absolutely! The great thing about this recipe is that you can customize the spice level to your liking.  Start with a smaller amount of sriracha and add more to taste if you want it hotter.

Storing + Reheating Leftover Broiled Salmon

Leftovers happen, and that’s okay! If you find yourself with leftover Honey Sriracha Salmon, no worries! Let it cool completely, then store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, you can either flake it up and gently warm it in a pan with a little bit of butter or oil or throw it back under the broiler for a minute or two (keep a close eye on it to avoid drying out).

Ingredients 

  • 2/3 lb. salmon filets
  • 1/4 cup sriracha
  • 1/4 cup cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon tamari/soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to high broil and spray a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Next, remove moisture from salmon fillets by patting them with a paper towel. Set aside.
  • In a small mixing bowl, mix sriracha, honey, and tamari together.
  • Place salmon fillets on baking sheet (skin side down) and evenly spread Sriracha sauce over the top of each salmon fillet.
  • Place baking sheet in the oven and bake for 8 minutes.*
  • Remove from oven. Make sure the salmon is done by taking a fork and if salmon easily flakes apart, it’s done.
  • Enjoy!

This is the quickest recipe ever and I love that. I am SUCH a whimp when it comes to spicy, but I think the honey would really tone this down for me. Sounds delicious!
